HPS reflectors - What's the difference?

I'm curious about the different types of reflectors/hoods. I'm looking into getting a 600w HPS setup, but I don't know much about reflectors and hoods and I can't seem to find anything that explains the difference between the different types. I understand that some are air-cooled, but other than that, what is the real difference? Are some better for penetration while others spread light better over a larger footprint? Are they all pretty much the same? Which type would you recommend?

I'm kinda leaning toward this type here --- CLICKY --- but that's only because I like the way it looks. I have absolutely no idea about functionality.

Any info would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

big kahuna hoods are MONSTERS!!! 35lbs, deffinately needs a very strong support (ceiling rafters, floor joists if below ground). has adjustable light holder (left right up down). fully hinged fold down glass, and adjustable ducting stacks (side or top). this does need a little attention for air leaks. solved with a 3.00 roll or window weather stripping, and some silicone caulk at the duct stacks.

coming from a xxl Apollo cool tube, this big kahuna hood has aot more light spread and fills my 5x10x7 tent fully now. I do run 2x of these hoods

Go with no reflector/vert bare bulb for the best efficiency(no light loss) in a properly designed room .

If you must use a hood, generally the larger it is the more coverage you get at the expense of less umol/ppf to the canopy........and vice versa when going with a smaller/tighter reflector.

"Cool tubes"aren't recommended by any hid bulb manufacturer as it lowers your light output and can create a spectral shift when cooling the bulbs directly.

Good luck and be safe grower.
