HPS questions

1. does a 150 watt HPS light use just that..150 watts? or is there more to it?

2. would it do a better job than 10 23 watt bulbs spaced around the plants?

3. could i grow 3 plants with a 150 watt HPS?

4. Do I need to have it in an enclosed space for it to be effective or could i just hang it up in my bedroom and it would do a decent job?

1 yes 2 yes 3 yes if you keep 'em small 4 nope open space is better, won't over heat.

if you have the choice over a 150W HPS and some half ass CFLs, i would definitely go with the HPS

the more plants you put under a 150W, the less yield you will have per plant. yield is directly related to wattage ie. 150W=150g (but thats with a 100% accurate grow).

you could just hang it up but just think of all that light being wasted...very inefficient. Its nice to have it enclosed by some sort of reflective surface like mylar or some nice white walls. keep in mind though, smaller space means more heat contained around the plants so you need some fans to refresh the air
