I'm going to start my second grow fairly soon and I want to upgrade from the two shitty 80 watt CFLs I have to something that will give me a great yield.

I have a decent amount of money to spend and would probably go up from a couple to five hundred bucks.

I want a low power bill and would like the most growth per watt with using the least amount of energy possible. If that makes sense.

so HPS or LED? what's the pros and cons of both? and wheres a good site I can order them from?

Running a 400w HPS will cost you $275/ year, running a 400w LED will cost you $275/year, running a 400w CMH will cost you $275/year. Thats less than a dollar a day and that is figured on $.15 KWh

Cost of electricity should not be in your decision making process.

Oh and move out of your parents house before you grow.

Okay I get that now, Which type of light tends to have the best results and can cover 6 plants?
You cant go wrong with HID lights. They are the most efficient way of converting electricity into available light. I would suggest buying a digital ballast (lumatek) as they are dimmable and can run multiple wattages. Also you can run a MH nd hps in these ballast. As for reflector get something from hydrofarm particularly an ac hood cause you can move the lights closer to the plants.

Greners.com will have everything you need

I like LEDs because there is a lot less involved in operating them. No reflectors, no ballasts, no heat management, no replacing bulbs once or twice a year.

I have both LED and HPS right now, 300 watt HTG LED, 240 watt Blackstar LED, 90 watt Spectra LED, and a 400 watt HPS in a cooltube. The HPS does yield the most because it is the biggest of my lights, but the Spectra LED yields the best per electricity used.

HPS/MH are nice for the low start up cost, and you don't have to do hours of research to find a good one like you would LED. I went through a few different LEDs before finding ones that worked good.

The 300 watt HTG LED is garbage btw....

6 plants of what size? Small AFs, Sat Trees or Indica bushes? LEDs are suited to short plants, but a 200 watt LED only covers ~ 2 ft square (2 X2), barely enough for one Indica bush, not enough penetration for > 4 ft Sat, but you can probably cram 3 cola type AFs under it. hth
