HPS light not working

Hi,

my HPS light stopped working after changing from reflector to air cooled hood.

Another way is already on they way and I will probably receive it tomorrow.

There is no way I can take my 1 week old plants outside for sunlight.

Are they going to die when kept in dark for more than 24 hours ?

They are still seedlings.

I appreciate the help.

They won't die.
If you have no other choice grab a couple lamps and put in some cfl bulbs until tomorrow.

Correct - that would stall any growth. I have moved mature adults grown under artificial light to the great outdoors and it always takes a few days for them to adjust to the differences and nuances of natural light.

Agree with Nick ... a couple of CFL's will hold them until your get your replacement HID.

You want cool blue cfls if possible, check the packaging for color spectrum.

I don't have any CFL bulbs that I can them them under. I am working late so can buy them.

I have led desk light but it is small. Do you think they will manage without the light for over 24 hours ?

If your little girls are only 1 week old, they are also pretty small. The small LED desk light would be OK for 1 day

Its better than nothing, do it up.

As long as they get 16 or more hours of light a day they will stay on cycle. If it's not a strong light they just won't grow at all but will stay healthy. A couple of those LED 60W equivalent bulbs would be great and they would probably be able to grow some too. Make sure to get the Daylight, 5000K ones. 6400K if they make them. I couldn't find any but the 11 I have going are vegging 24 plants nicely. Time to start repotting some of these.

Must be the ballast then, not sure why stopped working when it was not even moved. It was only used for 2 weeks.

Have to buy another one quick time

Wow ... dressing room light fixtures with some Cool Whites? They were pretty bulky hanging over the bathroom mirror ... but you have found a far more useful purpose for them. Well done!

Strange, check the fuse, if the last air cooled hood had a loose wire or wired wrong it may have just blown the fuse.

What happened to the original reflector that was working?

I still got it. Tried to connect to old one as well but not working.

I already sent it back and they are going to send me a new one tommorow.

Hope it will not damage my girls so much

Is that a digital or magnetic ballast? Digis usually have a fuse right under the intake power plug and with mine there is a spare in there. If magnetic and it won't fire an HPS bulb and you have an MH bulb try that. If it fires then the ignitor is shot, (fairly rare), but if it doesn't fire then most likely the capacitor.

I've been using magnetics since '82 and just got 3 - 600W digitals last November. Finally filled that gap between 400 and 1000W.

I bought those vanity fixtures at the local thrift store years ago and was always going to make a couple of light boxes with CFLs but never got around to it. Then when the LEDs came out they were on sale for $1 each so I bought a shitload of the cool whites and half a shitload of the warm whites. I used some aluminum angle iron to mount them on so each bulb is on a 6" centre and have a couple more 4 bulb fixtures to make them a 19 bulb fixture.

Finally received new ballast! Paid more for digital one.

Quick question:
I run 600w Lumii black in swift air ballast for both veg ans flower.

I was reading about omega lights and thinking about changing light for veg.

Should I use 400w blue spectrum omega light for veg and then switch to 600w lumii on flower or just change ballast power to 400w with 600w light inside?

Also what is your opinion on lumii light?

That Lumii bulb says it has enhanced blues for flowering. Blues are more for veg so not sure about it's flowering.

I use either a 400W Philips CMH or a Hortilux MH conversion bulb for veg then switch to a Hortilux Super HPS in either 400, 600 or 1000W for flowering. I like running a veg and flower light for the stretch then go with the Super HPS for the rest of flowering.

I'm starting to believe that it's not that critical so the Lumii should be fine. It's best to run a bulb rated for the wattage you have your ballast set to for the full spectrum that bulb is designed to output for it's wattage tho.

its winter we just lost electric for 3 days from trees down I have a shit load of seeds that just popped soil they lived so will yours , I know people that grow seeds in the dark to pop soil and they check every 2-3 days so those seeds started in dark and grew with no problems for a few day now if you said a week i'd say u might have some problems but 24 hrs your fine

Late to the thread but for future reference I would rather let the plants sit in darkness for 2 to 3 days rather than give them weak light. They will think it was one night.

Maybe for a couple days but after 4 or 5 they are going to start slipping into flowering mode. Best to keep them under even feeble light so they stay in veg. I use lower light levels when I want plants to slow down to fit them into my schedule. They still get their 18 hours/day but lots less. Less food too so they kind of go into limbo a bit.
