OK I just got home and my new600 watt mh bulb is cracked. Can I veg with hps for the first run? Thanks ..
Good question. Many growers here use only hps and that's how you would treat an auto. It does make a difference in the future structure of the plant with longer distances between nodes. The same thing happened to me several years ago. Good luck. Peace

yeah its ok to veg under hps depending on how long you veg for.
for instance if you veg for 4 weeks under hps and veg same amount of time
under mh the roots under the mh would be about a week ahead in root development.:)

I use mh and hps on autos why would u use a hps or think a hps better for autos ? When u veg u get a much faster grow rate with a mh bulb. U use the mh on a auto till it shows it's starting to flower then u switch to the hps .if u wanna stretch a auto u can do it soon as u see it start to flower as long as u doing a 18/6 light schedule u just reduce night time temp as much as possible and this will give u longer nodes and taller plant ...

as for this question yeah u can veg on hps but for the sake of what 40 dollars go get your mh bulb again the growth rate is well worth it I've used hps for veg I reakon it takes a lot longer to get required size to flick to 12/12 ...also I've heard if u can dimm a hps say a 600 to 400 it creates more blue spectrum of light...
Just use your hps till u buy a new mh then finish the veg with the mh

I like vegging with HPS. Regardless of increased internodal distances the plants are larger at the end of veg. It's my belief that more cells = more yield potential. Either way, I veg with HPS.

Looks like I'm late.... But anyway, I veg under a 600 HPS and wouldn't describe my plants as stretchy by any means. Go to it. Get vegging!

You can do it, just expect a bit of stretch. I veg under T5's most of my veg cycle, the week before I put them into flower I hit them with the T5 and a 600 watt HPS lamp for the duration of the week; they really love the extra light, put on some size and, aren't quite as stressed when the go under 1kw lamps for flower
