HPS bulbs with 30% blue light

I've always used MH during veg, and regular HPS (2700K) during flowering with good results.

However, my HPS bulb need replacing, and the my local growshop now have HPS-bulbs with 30% more blue light.
They cost a little more.

Are they worth it?

They cost about 50% more than standard HPS bulbs.

Anyone think they are worth it?

If these bulbs are better then why are not everybody using them?

Every grower I know uses HPS's with enhanced blue spectrum. Back in the day we didn't have these and would use 1 MH for every 2 or 3 HPS's. The Hortilux is probably the most popular blue enhanced HPS bulb on the market. I prefer Digilux due to a little more lumens and the fact that I run digital ballasts and they are designed for digitals.

As to whether it's worth it...do some math. If they gave you a 10% increase in yield, how much more $$$ is your crop worth? If you're getting just an LB/light, that would be around $300 more $$$ with a 10% increase (based on 3k/lb).

I dont think they are worth it,
I got a EYE Hortilux.
The etrxa blue comes from a lil bitty Blue Bulb that inside with the HPS.
The extra light that thing puts out is minimum.
You should run both your HPS an MH if you can
I guarante my MH in my cab puts out ALOT more lumens/ blue light then that lil bulb in the hortilux.

PS- I also have to thump my Hortilux HPS with my finger to get it to fire up, or it just sits there warming up forever?

Thanks for the replies.

If I could, I would use both HPS and MH.
But as my flower-space has only one HPS bulb, which need replacing, I figured the extra blue would not hurt.

They love the extra spectrum in flowering.
But then again, it's not "extra blue", it is the same watts so the output must has less red, correct?

I'm really on the fence on this issue, wish somebody else had any input as I got conflicting advise by previous posters.

Edit: Anyone else? (got conflicting responses)
