can i use a grow tent with 4 x 4 x 7 dimensions with a 400 watt hps/mh light in an attic? what im asking is will it be cool enough in the tent for the plants? im going to grow 2 at a time. Also im confused about what kind of ducting i will need and do i need an inline fan if i have an aircooled hood? and i dont want to have to cut holes in the wall to ventilate thats why i am trying to put a grow tent in the attic.

Roughly where are you located?

If your summers dont get over 75 outside then you might be able to do it, either way its gonna be tough.

You dont have a basement? Because attics are hard to grow in even with ventilation and AC.

You will need an air cooled hood and an inline fan. But even at that it will still be very difficult to battle the heat of the attic.

il tell you the few thing i know about venting and all
first will u use a cooled hood or just a reflector ?
in a tent alway better to use a hood and also you should try if possible to get you intake from outside inside the tube and then exhaust outside
for the flow of circulation in your tent if heard that a good rule of thumb is to get a fan that will pull out 3 to 5 time your tent cfm
so for your tent to get a good circulation you need to calcul stuff like this 4 x 4 x 7 = 112 now 112 x3= 336 112x5= 560
so you need a fan that in put out btw 336 to 560 cfm

i hope it anwser your question aand sorry if it a bit hard to read a bit high at the moment

i was going to get an a cooled reflector, and how would i get air from outside without putting a hole in the wall?

i wouldnt if you live in texas. im in the north east of the US and my attic gets well over 100 in the summer with nothing running in it so the 6" fan isnt going to help when its constantly 100+ up there. Id go for a basement. You wont get much of anything but headaches from an attic in that location.

damn, then youll need to get some form of air conditioner and run it on the lowest setting 24/7 just to compete with the temps. can you grow on the main floor??

lol do not try to grow in a attic ... i know texas heat to much... sure in the winter time, go for it you could pull it off... but now in summer , hell no ... unless u build a insulated room in ur attic and duck off your house ac and into the small INSULATED room.. a tent is worthless in a attic .. unless ur in winter...

how bout a closet? a extra room? a garage? ......

You could keep your door open and vent into your room?

and get cool air from AC out of your room. Or run a duct through your door if its a cheap closet door like most are.

If you put it in a closet, with a carbon filter, you would just exhaust into the attice using an inline fan. Simple setup really. In order, inside the tent, are: Carbon filter, section of vent hose, cool tube, section of vent hose running out of tent and into attice where it connects to an inline fan ( suspended from a rafter using bungee cords to silence any vibrations ) and just venting into the attic......your tent/closet will pull passive, air conditioned air into the tent/closet and exhale your tent air into the attic, already scrubbed to eliminate odor. You are talking about putting a 4" hole in your closet ceiling, that's it.

into your the room, build a cardboard door or something... its really easy to patch a hole in sheetrock.. cut one hole in the ceiling that will fit he 6" or 8" duck(depending on what your using) . that will hook up to your inline fan and dump all hot air in attic, which is the best way... you could prolly get away with just a inline fan blowing on the 400 with the ducking dumping into the bedroom.

so if i were to put the growtent in my closet, i understand that the ducting will be going to the attic to get the hot air out, but where do i get the fresh air?

thatll work. and you can get the fresh air form your room that its in. just have the door open and negative pressure will do the rest.

or you can toss a 6"booster fan in there. never hurts to have more air movin around.

Iif you have a fan pulling hot air/odor out of your tent/closet, then that air is getting replaced by air coming into your closet/tent from the room that the closet/tent is located in. I seriously doubt that when your closet door is shut that your closet is "air tight". You would not believe the tiny spaces that air can get in to. My guess is that there is a space between the bottom of your closet door and the floor, a perfect place for that fresh, air conditioned air to sneak into your closet.

Try the new led technology massive drop in temp when using leds.
