HPS 400W Stopped working?

Hey everyone,
So I bought a BRAND NEW 400W HPS bulb two days ago... plugged it in, works for roughly two hours, I check on it and it's off. I switch the ballast on/off a few times and it still won't work (keeps making a faint clicking sound). The buld has the long, faint, white streak running down it (on the outer glass sleave) and lots on bright white flecks on the bottom. I'm growing in a small cupboard and have an oscillating fan for ventilation.
WHAT IS GOING ON???
:peace: Cheers :peace:

Okay wait at least 10-15 minutes before trying to restart the bulb.

Since the bulb is new you can get it replaced. What kind of bulb are you using?

Is the ballast still under warranty?

Call up where you got it from. They should be able to answer a questions as to why it's making that noise. They might replace it if they can't fix it.

Won't be doable tonight (its 8pm here) but I will try to tomorrow. In the meantime, what do you think I should do with the plants? They're really only at the seedling stage (I germinated them and transferred them to the soil 5 hours ago). How long before they break the soil / need light?

If there still at seedling stage you could put them on a window frame/under a cfl you might have lying around. Shame this happened mate, hate little unforseen things like this which throw off your grow :(

If you're using an electronic ballast it could be that. Unless you get pulse start bulbs, they blow out fast in those. Still it shouldn't have blown out that fast.

I give it a day or two for them to break soil at that time you can use a couple cfls. The 400 will be good to flower.

Also, unscrew the bulb and look inside the socket. There is a metal tab that makes connection with the center of the bulb. I let a friend screw in my bulb and he did it too hard and broke off that tab so there was no connection. Tried to rig it to work, but ended up having to buy a new fixture...
