yea, so I have a 5gal pot and didn't fill it up to the top because I ran out of soil and didn't think that it would need to fill up to 5 gal. Its more about halfway up. but now i believe it would be more beneficial to fill it up so how would I do that..

First ya gotta let the plant grow for a few weeks maybe more. Hopefully you have holes in the bottom... for drainage... right? Once you see root hairs coming through the holes you will be able to pull (carefully) the whole root and plant out of the pail. You may have to slide a blade of some sort around the parameter of the pail to help break it loose. Cut down the root ball by a half to an inch with a razor blade to aggrivate the root ends. Fill the container half full of good dirt, put the root and plant back in and add soil around the inside of the pot and there ya go.

all that stuff he said ^ plus do it before flowering. also, don't just pull it upwards, that's still a lot of soil for the roots to hold on their own. i have someone help me flip it upside down while i have my hand flat on the soil, stem protruding through fingers and carefully slide it out; cut off that bottom half inch or just gently loosen up the bottom of the rootball and have the other person top up the pot, then flip it over and drop it back in. using a slightly larger pot (7g?) will pro'ly make it easier.

ok thanks people. would it be better if the soil is wet or what?
yes the soil should be moist before you drop her in there, never drenched though & if you pull that plant out when it's dry you'll likely make a lot more mess than necessary
