How to make lower branches thicker

What are some tips on how to make your lower branches and shoots thicker? I’ve picked unnecessary leaves off to gain more light and I also just got done topping the tops of them. I have lights shining on the side of the plants aswell so idk why the branches aren’t getting thicker. Any help would be nice. If you have anymore questions about my grow just ask

I never remove those leaves and always have super thick lower branches with only one hid light above.

when you remove them you get thinner lower branches. good lesson though

I recently started a seed under 12/12. The branches are much thicker and stronger than the plants I vegged under 20/4. She's going to be a nice bush. Obviously you have to switch to longer hours in week 4 if you want to keep vegging, but starting under lower hours of light might be the answer.

Maybe add a stronger fan?

It could also just be genetics or other environmental factors such as heat, overcrowding or humidity.

Try transplanting into a pot that is at least as wide as it is tall. If you use a tall skinny pot you are more likely to grow a tall skinny plant. The pot size/shape tells the plant how to invest the energy it is producing via photosynthesis.

Good luck, BigSteve.

All the energy goes to the tops..so focus on those top branches and cut the bottom smaller branches off..
Apple growers gave cannabis growers this idea. Dont want small fruit on the bottom..rather cut the thieves off to have bigger fruit on the tops. Technique is called lollipopping. Even the inner nodes at the bottom come off too

Exactly what Diabolical said.. you dont need popcorn buds on lower branches... I just snip em off if they are flimsy and not showing any good tops. Let the goods flow to the top. GL!
