how to get socket in?

i just moved my plants from a pc box to a cabinet i intend to use for veg and here is my dilemma.. stupidly simple but still thwarting me.

What i was wondering is how the hell im gonna get the socket that runs from the ballast to the bulb into the cab? its like 3 inches in diameter without the huge prongs, and the cab doesnt have a cheap plywood back held on with staples that i can take off.

Right now im just running it through the doorway because stealth isnt really an issue, for now at least.

Will i have to drill a large hole or can the socket be disconnected from the cord or the cord from the ballast and threaded through a cord sized hole somehow?

Thanks for the info

Most ballast cords have plugs that are fused to the wire. Cut the wire, thread it through a small hole and reconnect/tape the wire, or cut a big enough hole.

Is that safe with a cord that big? 400 watts intimidates me.
It's not the watts of the appliance as much as the voltage on the circuit. If you have never spliced an electrical wire this is not the time to figure out how. Although it extremely easy. Maybe you could get a friend to show you how.

If you cut a larger hole in the metal housing be sure to smooth the rough edges and add a rubber grommet, or wrap a few several thicknesses of electrical tape over the cord where it goes through the hole. The rough metal can possibly wear through the insulation on the cord over time.

thats actually whats holding the cord into the socket :P
I meant the product you linked to**.

And AimAim i have wired things before.. I made a couple pc boxes its not that hard to figure out i know.

Ill post pics of what i did in a sec but now im thinking maybe i shoulda cut a hole anyways , woulda saved me the trouble for when i put my exhaust fan in.

RIU isnt letting me use the good uploader and i can only put up one at a time. Well heres what i did . Wire was a stiff little bitch and alot of plastic fibre insulation. Covered it with electrical tape and marettes.

Edit for the cabinet pic :P Anyways thanks for the input fellas
