OP, the best thing to do (if you can't get any trazadone which helps make you completely stop tripping) is to do some active exercise. Exercise releases endorphins in the brain.. helping you feel better. This will help your brain be more relaxed and thus have a better trip! maybe 20 push-ups. or some jumping jacks or whatever. it also helps you get your mind out of a bad thought loop.

the best way to avoid a bad trip altogether is to just go with the flow.. realaaaxxxx

Dose, Mushrooms, Mescaline, Dmt... All are a key to opening the door to your mind. Once the door is opened, your environment speaks for a large % of the strength, and type of trip you'll go on. If you think about your trip in this context, bad trips last as long your environment and mind encourages it. One could eat two does one day and trip the fuck out. One could eat two more doses with the same potency weeks later and have a life changing trip. Psychedelics act merely as a door to the mind.

Personally Theory:
Normally, your brain sends a certain pattern of messages through neurons. Psychs jade that 'trained' messaging system. The brain shooting neuron transmitters between neurons in an unconventional, 'untrained' way, is the trip. You start tasting sights, hearing colors, tasting feelings. Your senses get fucked up.

Ending the bad trip:
One knows what its like to be balls deep in some potent doses. There is nothing quite like the feeling of despair; your mind running in circles and finally burying your head in a pillow and thinking "this is going to be one hell of a ride." Nothing quite matches seeing more with your eyes close, than open. Your mind, with a psychedelic substance, can become more of an exploratory educational tool than any text book or computer. Dose makes you challenge your ego; it makes you challenge everything you thought to be social accepted.

Going down the bad trip road is scary. You start to think, "What the fuck am I doing" or "When is this going to fucking end?" Let one tell you that this is normal in the beginning of experimentation of psychedelics and when you are the peak of your existence and you think there is nothing left, find peace in the simplicity of dose and the naturalistic quality of Mushrooms. Remind yourself that everything will be ok. Start writing, go for a walk, rip the bong; it will all be over soon. Think about things in your life you could change/enhance. Find peace and tranquility in nature, watch the discover channel. Put in some good music, it will sound completely different. Think about all the good things about your life; your friends, family, future. Listen to Sound Tribe Sector 9 if you want a good beat, BassNectar, Widespread Panic. Music is a great escape...

Bad Trips are for noobs and insecure bitches. That being said, one has had two bad trips to date. It happened when one was a noob and a lil bitch. If you find yourself walking down that dark road on your trip, remind yourself it will all be ok, throw on some jams, toke one, and move on in your journey. Trip....

DONT DRINK ON SHROOMS, your stomach will rot out from the alcohol and the cubensis mixing together, from what ive heard and itll kill you like no tomorrow, like 8 beers im sure it takes at least and some good shrooms, but still.
This is not true. Ate 4.0 cubensis, tripped nuts, then drank all night. When tripping, you can actually drink like a fish. Opinion: drinking is fun when tripping. It helps your get to sleep and is really, really fun.

Anyone have science to back up either myth?

I know I can drink as much as I want while on mushrooms and not really get very drunk. I drank a lot one night while on LSD and ended up examining my thoughts and how alcohol was effecting the way I was thinking... lol the lsd made me intuitively think about my drunkeness... it was a weird night.

On Halloween me and some friends did some acid and my buddy had a bad trip that his legs were cramping and freaked out so i turned all the lights on(we had black lights and strobe lights on) and the music off and set with him and talk with him a laid on the ground next with him and just started to talk about work and other crap just to get his mind out of it after about half a hour he finally started to relax and we started to0 drink beers like no tomorrow lol beers sure help the come down

I think my buddy had this bad trip cuz he was taking some pain killer for his legs (codeine) and i think the body high of the codeine and the acid just freaked him out.But now he is fine the fucker did some acid yesterday and he was all rubbing it in today at work telling me how fun it was lol and how the sky looked amazing lol

The best way in my experience is just to talk with the person and make them feel comfortable and always reassure them that they are under the influence of a drug and its all in there head and that it will pass in some hours

I'm going to be taking shrooms for the first time on Friday, and I'm a little anxious that i may have a bad trip. I've heard that drinking alcohol while on shrooms can bring you down...is this true? does anybody have any other, better suggestions on how to come down if a bad trip does indeed happen? thanks!
Honestly, don't take them if you're unsure. Shrooms, peyote, ayahuasca and such are capable of naturally shifting your consciousness to another "perspective". One in which "time" and "reality" do not act in the same manner as in "normal" standards. If you're not ready to experience that, whether it be a "bad" trip or "good" trip then perhaps you should not be experiencing these drugs.

No matter what people here say; "Take Trazadone", "Do jumping jacks and push ups", etc... it might not work for you. I have a good friend who ended up in the hospital, and now suffers from severe mental challenges all from 1/8th of an oz of shrooms. It breaks my heart. He was not ready, and didn't understand what he was doing when a friend of his put a handful of shrooms in his hands. They had planned on it all week and it turned out to be one of the worst things that's happened to him... He would have been a brilliant student in college, and an even more bright contribution to a professional career.

I've had "bad" trips, been with people experiencing them, and have also been on the brunt end of them with the law as well. Picture this: You're having a great night with a couple friends. You all took a handful of shrooms, which is nothing out of the ordinary. You settle into the couch to listen to some music and let the shrooms take hold of your mind. Then the music you're listening to, a cd that you've known front to back for years, suddenly turns dark, unfamiliar, and puts a chilling fringe down the back of your neck. The treble pierces your ears like small needles in and out of a balloon. The sound of the bass hits the inside of your heart as if its going to explode from within. As soon as you notice your heart, you realize that its beating faster than you've ever felt it beat. You sit up and realize then that something's wrong. Are you having a heart attack? It's just the shrooms. Right? What if it's not? What if the psilocybin's poisoning my body? What if I took too much? Maybe I should go outside and have a cigarette. Yeah, that's what I'll do! But, won't the nicotine make my heart beat faster? Shit, the music's still chipping away at my life, beat by beat.

You know what happens after that? You freak out so badly that you call 911. You call for help because you weren't ready. We called the ambulance. They showed up with cops, obviously. I spent the 15 minutes we had between the call and them knocking on the door running around the house hiding a pipe under a blanket, and the bong under the bed, and the weed stash under the sink, and the grinder in my pillow... paranoia. The cops knocked on the door, walked in and proceeded to search the front of our place. A good friend walked up to them, handed them a bag full of shrooms and said, "I called you, I think I'm dying! This is what I took. These guys didn't do anything, so please just get me to the hospital."

The cops were not friendly, but they bought the whole thing and let us all off with warnings. It doesn't end so happily for everyone.

I've been through Door 1, 2, 3, and so on... I've had "bad" trips, and "good" trips. You simply never know what you're going to experience, and unless you're completely sure that you can handle whatever reality you might experience, you need to think thoroughly about what state of consciousness you're going to expose yourself to.

Long story short - If you're questioning methods to back yourself out of a "bad" trip, then you need to reconsider what you're planning on doing because you're already unsure of yourself and the state of mind that you're going to be exposed to during such an experience.

Sorry to be a downer. I've seen too many people jump head first into these alternate states of consciousness and not fully recover. This is not alcohol... There are risks, which many people refuse to acknowledge before experiencing.

Good luck if you choose to take the leap.

I agree with above^^ with the fact that reality is going to alter pretty seriously and at first you will not know what is happening. This is when you may freak out and think you're dying. Weak minds are capable of breaking under such circumstances but this should not deter you too much from taking them. I mean, how else will you know if you can handle it without trying?

also.. this is NOT like alcohol, your perception of reality completely changes but it is safer than alcohol in the fact that you're not going to easily get poisoned from them. psilocybin can't poison you in fact. so don't let that worry you.

and like I said before.. relaaaaxxxx man!
also if you find yourself getting worried about something just tell yourself 'fuck it' and stop worrying.

I've found that the best thing to do while tripping is this: Remember that it's just a drug, and you still have control of your mind. Having the mental fortitude to remain dominant over the hallucinogens you take is vital, in my opinion. It has gotten me through many an experience, including picking a girl up at 3 AM from the local PD for a DUI while drunk, tripping acid, and blazed out my mind.

Make sure you have a sack to blaze through (this ALWAYS works for me). Blazing is (IMO) the most helpful thing you can do to keep your mind calm while tripping, and tripping can make the weed smoke look fucking awesome.

don't listen to most of these guys.

god so much misinformation... shrooms and beer don't kill you... ever, unless you drank enough beer that would have killed you in the first place w/ or w/o the shrooms (nearly and impossible task with beer). (make your got rot/explode? WTF?>>>>???)

best thing for a bad trip is changing environment, sometimes it's so intense that does nothing, but even a light trip can go sour in a second if you go to a bad room or are around obnoxious people or anything that makes you feel uncomfortable... always trip with close friends and the no. 1 way to feel better in an uncomfortable/bad trip is to get in the car... i'm not suggesting you drive it but being in a moving car is a very secure place and something about the motion and music are incredibly comforting.

if its your first time, just do a half an eighth. it wont be a really strong trip, and you will get a gauge of how you react to psychodelics. i personally found out it doesnt take me much to trip pretty well. 1 hit of acid does a lot, and 1/2 an eighth of shrooms is a pretty enjoyable, in depth trip.

people are warning you for good reasons, but the only way to find out if your mentally strong enough is to do them. set the amount you want to take (keep it low. maybe 1.5-1.8g dried), and then go enjoy the trip. dont be tempted to say "shit, im not tripping, i should take more." classic mistake. i made it my first time and had a crappy first trip.

a small dose will let you feel how its like to lose yourself temporarily in a trip, but you also snap back into reality every once in a while, like a series of waves, versus taking so much you are no longer a part of "reality" for your whole trip, which is where its easy to have a bad trip.

id also say take 10 minutes of some alone time to really think about everything before you ingest the shrooms.
ask yourself questions like "if i start to experience bad vibes, what can i do to fix it?"
let yourself know that you will have 1 or 2 times where you will start to have bad vibes, and this comes with the territory, but can easily be changed.

for me, i like to think of how things can go wrong, and rationalize them so that they can turn into positives. its all about your perspective. remember that things can go wrong in life, but they do in fact make you stronger and you just have to learn from them and grow; same thing with a trip.

when you can let a sigh of relief after being alone and thinking about things and being put in a positive place and that you feel ok with ingesting shrooms, thats when i would say go for it, and have a fucking blast!

vitamin c really helped me out, really calmed the trip down, either take a few pills or drink a small bottle of orange juice, don't chug it, but drink it quickly.
Vit C= old wives tale, but sometimes the mind itself stops the trip if you believe what you are doing will help, ie drinking juice. I tripped hundreds of times and never had a bad trip as I only tripped when I was feeling mentally strong. Hallucinogens amplify moods so anxiety can turn into pure fear, Ive seen people who were terrified and believed they were dying. If you are in a bad head state, wait!:eyesmoke:

When in doubt, play it safe. I learned this saying when I learned how to drive a car...amazing how it applies to much more.

Worried about personal reaction?
-Take less...most people for the first time do half an 1/8 (1/16 = ~ 1.75 grams).
-Don't mix drugs (yes this includes alcohol). when I trip, I'm plenty fucked up, so taking more anything isn't needed.

As far as what a couple of these dudes have said about friends or themselves with bad trips...yeah it happens. A friend and myself each ate too many shrooms one night (something dumb, like a almost 1/4 a piece). Whether or not the bong rips of mersh had anything to do with it, I don't know...might have...might have not. He wigged out, thought he was dying etc. I was able to keep it together for whatever reason (more experience, knew more what to expect, had tripped off other stuff pretty hard before). It was easily one of the worst nights of my life, if not the worst. I'm glad that my friend did not suffer any permanent injury.

Its always better to play it safe. Whats the worst that can happen? You think, "OK I handled that easily. I want to do more next time."

Oh, and as far as the vitamin C thing...based on my own experience, and the advise of old timers that have "been through the war and back", the vitamin c (orange juice for example) should be taken at the beginning or before the trip. Some younger folk say it amps the trip, but the older guys say its just better for your body if you're going to be trippin' for many hours or even days. I'm not usually hungry until the trip starts to slow down, but some of these old hippies would trip for a long time, thus possibly inhibiting the amount of food and drink they would intake. So, trip for days + minimum food and water = not much sleep if any and personally that leads me straight into a cold or infection depending on season.
