I'm not even going to bother reading all the replies.

I'm just going to say this is a terrible idea. You actually need the money for school, not your brothers car.

DON'T FRONT PEOPLE. MONEY, OR WEED. IT WILL BITE YOU IN THE ASS EVENTUALLY.

I can't remember which book it was from but it's something i've always followed where i can, there's only one thing worse than doing someone a favour and that's a favour involving money.

As racerboy states, you got given the money for a reason and chances are the amount given is calculated to be around what you would need. I wonder what kind of legal fraud type trouble you can get in if it goes wrong, i'd have thought if you have to drop out of school because you lost your money and it was found you'd given half of it to your brother to buy a car for himself, isn't that defrauding the public pocket or some such charge?

do what ya gotta do though  if transport is so important, tell him to get a moped or any other alternative crappy $100 motorcycle that will get him from A to B, they do exist, and 1200 on a car, you can get one much much cheaper if you visit any reputable auction house. Why not stop smoking so much weed and lend him money from that?

Sounds to me like you are searching for any reason that will make YOU feel ok about using this money that you told the government you were going to use for your education for your brother. It wasn't just given to you, you had to apply for it and say that it was for your education. Had you applied and said it was for you brother's ride they would have shown you the door.

Using the money that you applied for your education and then using it for another purpose is the reason I think most (not all) of this 'help' you and others are getting should be stopped.

Pitiful, just pitiful. Your brother shouldn't even have asked or accepted your grant money. Very selfish of him.

You're sounding like white trash now.

well the thing is, my financial aid is a grant, which is basically a scholarship that the govt gives you. and i love my bro very much, he's my twin, and him not having a car affects the whole household where he lives, so i wanted to help my family out

Erica dear, you're going to give your twin the cash. You'll learn that it won't be repaid and that the lesson is you CAN'T lend family money. If you can't afford to GIVE it to them and expect no repayment, then it never never works. Tough love is what he needs. Give that to him and he will respect you more for it.
