How tall should I grow my plants?

Hello. I've been reading about growing for a while on this forum and others. I have most of the info I need but I'm afraid I have a question that I hope isn't too variable to answer. I'm drawing up my plan for an indoor grow room,
-plan on using 1000 watt HID lighting (found some used)
-have a large room, plan on building walls of oriented strand board and insulating from heat
- growing a variety of strains
Now the question is, how tall can I/ should I grow my ladies if I grow 10 per light (lumens used as limiting factor here, figured 13000 per plant) in an at least 5x5 ft space with ~6ft ceiling height? My instinct is to utilize all the height I have.
In addition is 2.5 sqft per plant enough to utilize height of room? (Using that minimum of 5x5) Please explain any answers ask any questions, and thank you.

I apologize if this is unclear, all I'm asking is how much of the height of the room i can use for growing. I'm not sure if the width and length of the room limits me from using the full height, how far plants should be spaced, etc.

ohhhh u did the math

i would change your plan to 8 plants u want 15k lumens

in a 5x5 area i am lucky to get 4 plants with the strains i am grow...........i got one that is taller then the light itself it all depends on the strains u pick

indica will be shorter then sativa


if u are really worried about this look up SCRoGing (screen of green or sea of green ) that would control the height of plant

As tall as your little heart and stubby fingers desire my little chubby troll.

Biggest yields I've ever seen were on the shortest height plants...

How tall is your grow area??

with proper lighting I would grow them as tall as your grow room would allow

I think what your best bet with a limited height space, is to use less plants, top the hell out of them, FIM em out, do a little LSTing, and Scrog that like a SOB.

You have to plan for your switchover. 18/6 or 24/0, is gonna give you as much growth as you want or need, but when you switch to 12/12 and go into flower your plants going to grow substantially. If you veg too much without controlling height, you will get screwed and burn the shit out Of your girls.

Moral is, like someone else said, keep it smaller, veg till its 18 inches tall, then switch to flower, but make sure you keep it low and train that girl to stay low.

i agree with the ScROG, method of growing for limited height and just because, i have a 9 ft ceiling and will be doing one plant in a scrog screen and will yeild as much as someone growing 10 plants in the same space/lighting,

the great thing about marijuanna is that you can ultimatly grow the plant and train it for as long as you want. , people do the SoG method (more plants but smaller) because it optimizes time as they only let clones veg a couple weeks before throwing them into the flowering rotation, usually ran alongside a perpetual setup.

invest initially in the tools to grow hydroponically and you will save yourself time and money in the long run. basically just need your meters and the materials to build your DWC buckets, then the only ovehead you have is water and nutes, water is free and nutes last a while. soil gets mighty expensive over time.

you can look up some cheap DIY DWC setups and once you get the concept there is a million different ways to setup a dwc bucket.

basically all a DWC is is a bucket of water with an airstone in it....

Just wanna throw out an alternative to hydro, that getting a good living organic soil is also cost effective in the long run. Initial cost of compost/ewc/fertilizer/etc isn't too bad depending on how much you need, and when you have a good living organic soil all you need to do is add water.. no nutes, no regulating pH, just water, and if needed, a compost tea. You can reuse the soil for as long as you need as well, even if you have to regrow the beneficial bacterias and stuff with tea, it should be good to go for as many grows as you want, essentially! No tubes or buckets or meters, it's pretty simple and can get amazing results! Mother Nature grows some good plants. Guess it depends on your needs and what you are more inclined to do. I'm more of a soil guy but would like to try hydro one day, but I am currently very excited for this organic soil I am about to use!

sounds good on paper...i have been a soil guy, then a hydro guy, then a soil guy again and now back to a hydro setup. i will take soil over a complicated hydro setup anyday but i am rather fond of the simplicity of DWC

A room with 6 foot ceilings? Are you trying to grow in Munchkinland? You know thats against the law there, right?

don't forget the height of the Pots and the Hanging of the light eat about 2 feet, then a 1000 wht has to be 24 in or more from the top, so that's 2 more feet you just lost. IF you use a cool tube you can control the heat better ( and have the lamp closer) then if you don't use one.
