Basically what it says, I want to build a cabinet, and would like to know how much FLOOR SPACE a 400W HPS will OPTIMALLY cover.

Guides say 4' x 4', from experience I fell like 3' x 3' is optimal, about 10 plants or so.

dude check out the link in my sig for my grow.

I have a grow cabinet that is aporox 20in x 36in and i have a 400 w in there.

I have 5 girls in there right now in their 2nd day of flowering.

The 400 w is a bit tricky in the begining stages ( I had my seedlings under my 400w MH) and it caused a bit of buring, not nute burn but regular burn.

However, my girls lived though it and the result has been some crazy condenced growth.

well i'd say that depends on the hood you go with.it's been my experience that 2'6''x2'6'' with out a hood worked great for me.all direct light that way and less heat.

Strait up bulb, no reflector, in a cab 2'6x2'6 and how tall?

Without a shade there's less heat ?

I have a white shade arched and open at both ends.

So will a 5'x2' be ok? I really can't afford a stronger light or the light bill that'll come with it.
