Im thinking of buying a wing reflector setup that comes with a MH and HPS bulb. Not sure how much it'll run. Also how many plants can respectively go under one 400watt bulb? Another thing I was wondering was if anyone had an estimate of how much the yield may be if i use 12/12 with MH vegatative and HPS for flowering Thanks.
Happy smokin:p

Go get you last electricity bill, find how much a kilowatt per hour costs your place
..sit down with a calculator and figure it out yourself
Kwph x 12 hours x 30 days = cents per month/100 =$$ sum such /...lol

I get 9 3 gallon pots under my 400w digital to 3ft high in 3 months
1x month veg 2x month bud

Thanks sounds cool. I'm a newbie at this you can probably tell lmao. Any idea what would happen if i 12/12 2 plants under the 400w?? And after germ the seed isnt out of soil after you plant it..should there still be light over the soil or will it make any difference?

Also remember to factor in your fans and timers and everything. You'll actually become more aware about power use. You can knock your bill down a bit by u.plugging random crap around the house like consoles etc. Everything helps a bit. A 400 watter is a nice light though for a small op. It won't destroy your wallet. Invest in a 600 watter when you get your feet wet and get a grow method that works for you.

Watching this thread, shoot us a link to your actual grow thread or journal. I'd like to pull up a chair to that too. Ive grown 3 medium LST'd Kush plants in a 3'x3'x6' tent with a 400watt MH flowering bulb I got about a QP, i should have got more but it was a learning experience. AMAZING SMOKE tho lemme tell you I was proud of myself. I was able to sell for minimum $250.00 an ounce where average for bomb was about $220 at the time. I had no ventilation system or anything, just sitting in a tent with the light going.

Right now I have a 400watt cooltube setup in a 2'x3'x5' tent with a 190 cfm fan and filter. Im in a 2 bedroom apartment so im kind of shitting bricks about the grow. I havent setup everything yet, will be soon. My buddy has my 2 mothers under a 1000watt MH and I have 15 clones rooting that have shown signs of roots already. Will be setting everything up this week probably. Going to do 12 clones in 3L pots. Going to veg for 2 weeks once i transplant then flower for 8, then hang dry in the tent with the fan/filter going. Cheers

I've got a 400W bulb going 20/4 and a 1000W bulb on 12/12. The 2 extra bulbs increased my electric bill about $100 a month. BigSteve.

I run 300 w of HPS and my vortex fan I believe uses 150w or so. I also run two smaller fans. My bill has gone up around $80. Keep in mind that I also need to keep my place cooler by running AC in my apartment.

What's no fun is buying equipment then upgrading very quickly. If you want a 400 and plan to upgrade to 600 at some point then I would just get a 600 adjustable ballast. You can still run it at 75% and get close to your desired wattage. You could probably run it at 50% during veg. I have heard that ipower is a decent lamp for not a lot of $$. http://www.amazon.com/iPower-GLSETX600DHMWING20-600-Watt-Digital-Dimmable/dp/B005DOS0R8

A really easy way to start out is to buy a 150 or 250w all in one hps light. They are cheap. Especially used. 150 w grows one plant just fine. No need for MH, just use cfl to start the seedlings.

When you get into 400 or 600w lamps then heat becomes an issue that needs to be addressed. You will likely want a cool tube unless you have a ton of space to disperse heat.

Don't forget about smell. Trying to grow without a good carbon filter is tough. With a decent filter you will have almost no smell issues.

Tell us what your grow space will be. Dimensions, ambient temp etc.

Cool, what do you all think on this.. Grow indica or sativa?
Depends on your goals.. Is it medical? What type of high do you like? Do you like to smoke and go hiking or do you like to be sedated and fall to sleep? I mess with a lot of experimental / new strains. I wouldn't recommend that. Go for something tried and true.

You will likely want to select a plant by size also.. Herbies Headshop or any other seed company will tell you the height and other stats. Short plants are best for indoor small spaces.
