How much longer on this male?

Budda growing pot

So I'm going to try my hand at harvesting some pollen and then making seeds with some of the smaller bottom buds on my 2 other plants.

Never grown a male to maturity before, was hoping for some outside opinions.

This is just a small cfl grow, I flipped the plants on to 12/12 while they were only 6" tall because they were stunted anyways. Got a male. Now instead of killing it i'm going to let it be a father :blsmoke:

Let me know what you think.

The greener one is the male. The other is a top view of one of my other plants.
(both are from a 50/50 sativa/indica plant bought at a cannabis club in SanDiego.)

Having trouble with the camera hope you can see the pics alright.

I'd just keep an eye on him and have him in a different room then the females...but I'm sure you know that.

I'll flick a branch and put black paper underneath to check, but I'd say about another 1-2 weeks.

I chopped my male down at that stage and put the top in a clear plastic cup, stem in a cut out hole in the bottom into a cup of water. This way, A- I only have one branch of pollen. B- it stresses the plant to open the sacks sooner IMO. C- the pollen collects in the plastic cup making it easy and less messy.

For a few pics of my collecting method visit my grow journal.

He's got atleast 2 weeks. Keep him around 75 degrees too. Colder temps prolong pollen production

4-6 weeks imo
Looks like the pods just started showing up? I like the tight inter nodal spacing, looks like you're gonna get a pretty good cross.

Definitely NOT 4-6 weeks. I have a lot of experience with pollen collection. In two weeks you'll have pollen. Guaranteed. From experience I can tell you, 3 weeks from seeing the first football-shaped sac you'll have bananas dangling from those nodes. And judging by your pick, you got plenty sacs, and they take no time to swell up.

He'll start getting pollen in 2 weeks, but it won't a full mature male until 4-6 weeks later. Why wouldn't you want to collect pollen from a fully mature male if you were getting pollen anyway?

Good call bro. So are you saying the pollen genetics change if it's not a full 8 weeks, etc.? I always figured once you got the pollen, those genetics are set in stone, no matter the age.

No the genetics do not change, but your plant is just more mature. Maybe it plays some roll, I'm not quite sure, but there's a reason why we don't pick our buds when they first pop up. I've always figured the same goes for pollen. I could be horribly wrong, but I've never had any problems in the past.
