3 1000w would be good but I would use 4 if possible...about 7500 lumens per plant so if you got 20 plants that would be 5 under each.Yea 4 sounds about right. also depends on how your growing em and how tall....how big is your grow area?? Check this out...https://www.rollitup.org/grow-room-design-setup/360781-building-your-grow-room-101-a.html
well ill prob veg till bout 1.5-2.0 ft then flower, the last time i grew i had the same set up but with only 3 plants in the 5gal buckets and they got to about 5-6.5 ft tall. in that grow i used 1 400watt mh/hps

yea big room....Id try for 4 and youd be good for sure....Remember some plants can tripple in size by the end of flowering and a 1000w is supposed to be 24 inches from tops of plants unless in air cooled hood...

Yea im gonna have all air cooled lights. i looked at your grow room 101 and its got some damn good info on it, but i cant see the drawings! damn it! they look like the info i need too. right now i have a 1000 watt and two 400watt lights and was prob gonna get 2 more 1k lights so with 20 buckets how would you in your opinion arrange the lights and buckets?

More plants do not mean more bud. Plant crowding blocking light prevents each plant from reaching its best potential. Also crowding causes stretching because they compete for light. Depending how long you veg for will greatly change your yield. The longer you veg the more you produce exponentially. An extra 2 weeks of veg can double your yield.

If you want to use your 5 gallon pots to their full potential I would recommending you veg for a month at least. with a month long veg and 5 gallon pots I would guess that you could only fit 6-8 plants per light. Remember its 1000 watts per 4x4 grow space and if you are going to grow giant plants then each plant will need at least a foot and a half radius so the leaves dont get crowded. I would expect to yield from that anywhere from 1-4 pounds per 1000 watts depending on the strain grown and other stuff such as CO2 and whatnot.

The yield is mainly set watts per square foot. It has less to do with the number of plants.
Often times less is more ;)
