How much heat will result from from slowly pouring 250ml 85% phosphoric acid into to 1700 ml ph-8 water?
Is it enough that its likely to melt a plastic (PET) homebrew bottle ? - (yes of course the mix will be labelled poison and not sit in the fridge duh :) )
Will i need to go outside to do this ? (would rather not, neighbours will think im making meth)

Why is it a stupid post? - i am making a ph down solution, and 85% phosphoric is considered a medium strength acid. I have never mixed 85% phosphoric acid with water before, so am trying to plan things out in advance. Youtube clips are always using a pyrex or stainless container, but i plan to use a 2l PET bottle. Want to know in advance if its going to boil / gas / melt / explode !

No, but where i live the ph of the tapwater is 8 or above. There is so much calcium that the bottom of your cup of tea has visible chunks of calcium!
I have been using vinegar but it seems that phosphoric acid is the official way to acid up your water.

So i carefully poured 250ml of 85% phosphoric acid into 1750ml of water, and nothing worrying happened. No heat or outgassing. Left cap loose for a few hours just in case of gas buildup, resulting liquid has a ph of 3, causes no burns on skin, but i tried putting some on my tongue and that was a bad idea :) - no burns but felt odd!
