hey whats up! I been doing some research and its pretty much a proven fact that UVB light increases trichome production. SO how many UVB bulbs would i need to see a difference in trichome production for a 4x4 tent u think? and the kinda bulbs i need? Thanks alot!!

There is a heated debate on this, I've heard many things.
Everything from 40w per plant to the assertion that amount is laughable and dwarfed by what is actually needed.
Im interested to see actual lab-tests.

You can buy 10,000k 1000w and 600w one of those would do it. Just remember the sun glasses. They work it kinda a pain to change bulbs for a week or two but you can tell a difference

May I suggest the arcadia uvb bulbs. Best UVB bulbs on the market at 12% uvb. There are 150 watt mercury vapor lamps, however they produce lots of heat in a tent.
4 bulbs spaced 2.5 ft apart on two sides would help if you rotate them around for overall coverage every 2-3 days. I just 1/4 turn them every few days.
Zoo Med also has good bulbs (10%) and they are less expensive but not as good as the Arcadia's. Zoomeds bulbs need to be closer than the arcadia's.
You only really need them from week 3 and on when trich's are building in flower and running them 10-12 hours has the best effects.
Don't waste your money on the other bulbs. They are not as cost effective or productive for what you are doing. And the field of coverage is more narrow or focused with any spot type of bulb compared to a longer florecent bulb. The one you had the link to would work well if aimed at the top of a cola.
Hope that helps.

Only if you remove the glass if in a hood. Most MH bulbs still don't produce much UVB because of the type of glass the bulbs are made from. Vertical hung does help but not compared to true UVB florecent bulbs. And HPS has no UVB or almost none.

Just buy the 600 uvb bulb kinda expensive but if you want the results it's the way to go. Most hydro store will have to order them. I think mine cost 125$ and is a six hundred as well. Never tried the florescent one's but I think that you could expect to see results like all cfl and florescent SLOW TO NO

These bulbs are redundant if you use an enclosed hood. The glass will block most of the ubv from the light. Honestly guys I've been down this road a few times now and for the money you can spend, your outcome will be disappointing at most. Save your money for the important stuff, a good de-humidifier, meters, pumps or even an ozonator. These will give you a bigger bang for your buck IMO JAS

I've looked at the 160W self-ballasted spotlights as an addition to over 1,000 actual watts of CFL's. I should have simply gone the MH/HPS route, but just kept adding and adding CFL's b/c I had a free source...now there's 24!.

Yet, I need to up my UV/UVB during winter months when my sun room gets no sun. So I'm at a crossroads, add a couple reptile spotlights or replace my 2700K CFL's with an HPS.

What would you recommend?.

If heat isn't an issue hang an open MH in the area to boost UV availability. During the winter months I lower my nitrogen levels once in flower and increase carbohydrates in the last 4 weeks to help with thrich production. Good Luck JAS

Like the MH idea, but not so much lowering N levels...I realize some growers if not many switch to a lower N nute during flowering but feel doing so will lessen overall bud size.

Uvb is best for the last week
Stop spreading misinformation. During flower when trich's are building is when UVB should be added. Not just the last week. I run them from week 2-3 on to harvest. This will give you the best results. No need during veg because it only effects the trich's as they flower.

Jonny is correct as the glass blocks out UVB. However hanging a MH vertically with no glass will help add some uvb but still not much useable. Test it with a meter if you don't believe. Or watch this video about useable UVB light.

Depends on your space(size) and how much exhaust you have to control temps. A 1000 watt MH will raise the temp at least 10 degrees. So you need to have good enough cooling to keep the temps in check. 600 will raise the temp at least 6-degrees. However you will get the best penetration with a 1K bulb. If this is just the flowering area even better.

You can switch the florescent bulbs out depending on the wattage of the ballasts and the pin assembly to T-8 to run zoo meds 10% uvb bulbs for side lighting. (40 watt ballast will run a t-8 bulb but you might need to change the bulb socket or just use the t-12 to t-8 rubber gromets like I did so it fits into the receptical. This would cover a 5x5 to 6x6 area with the side lighting uvb bulbs. However you will need to be able to turn the plants to get even coverage. Go smaller on the MH or HPS light depending on room size and heat removal situation.
Most others should just get the arcadia's if they don't already have florecent fixtures and ballasts. They are HO bulbs and ballasts at 55 watts a bulb.
Hope that helps.

I have 600watt 10,000k uvb bulbs they kind of stop bud growth and almost kill the plant. They work great for what they are intended for. Not some shity lizard light or black light so using before last week would hurt my yield

Sunpluse makes 600 an 1000 watt 10,000 k uvb lights= real results 3 days frost starts going nuts by day 7 plants that do not normally turn purple start to purple ten day max is what I've found. Any thing over 10 minutes starts to burn your skin. I was working on keeping the buds up when I first got them I burned so bad it pealed I didn't take long I started to feel the warmth of a burn and it was a done deal.
