How many plants in aero SOG

i all, im switching my aero set up a bit and changing from Scrog to Sog.

i am growing under a 600w cooled light, and have about a 4x2 surface to work with. Originally i was going to put 32 sites in with no veg time, then thought about it a bit more and cutting 32 clones at a time ... well i dont want to make it more work then it has to be.

i am jsut looking for some input on how many sites i should cut, trying to get as close to 1lb off a 600w as possible. I am also able to fit in a couple of weeks of veg time to make the plants a bit bigger for flowering if i cut the number of plants down.

Just to give you some perspective, I grew 0.95 lbs. with a 600w hps on a light mover:leaf:

you have a high lumen /area ratio. i think you are right to grow plants and veg them some time. becuz in SOG you use up you square area the best possible so you would do a 4x3 to make most of it. in your case you could make use of the strong light for penetration and grow bigger taller plants and give big buds. think of maybe of 6-8 plants. let them root well and veg em a bit. however i think int's better to take more clones, i like to chose the best rooters so i have most of it. i would say take20 clones and when they root don't hesitate to ditch some cuz you had more than needed.

i would love to only have to do 6-8 plants. i just did that in a aero hybrid set up except did a scrog with it(in my display pic). i wanted to switch to SOG to keep my my plants short... in end to keep my roots short. I switch my aero set up around a bit and am using a big rubbermaid container now so the roots can hang freely for about 2 feet before they start touching the bottom, then turning into a aero/nft hybrid again. So i was trying to keep my plants under 2.5 feet tall after 8 weeks of flowering if i could.

I have never done a SOG before so i am trying to get an idea of what my end results are going to be, i am under the impression that i am cutting a bunch of clones, sending them in to flower when ready (maybe a couple weeks of veg), trimming all the branch growth along the way and only having a main cola. Assuming thats how i am suppose to do a SOG, under a 600w light, using 8 plants i should be getting about 2 ounce main cola's on each plant?

I would do 2 weeks VEG then straight to flowering... I think 32 plants is a little toooo many for a 2x4 space... I would go with 15-20 at the most... If you cluster them too tight together the lower buds will not fully develop... Or you can just cut them off so ALL the energy of the plants go to the tops....

32 plants in a 2x4 space is 4 plants per square foot that is ok in veg seeings how they dont get enormous but in flower its said one plant per square foot is ideal i somewhat do that setup but i put 11 7" to 10" clones in a 2x4 ebb tray this allows for some branchings to join the canopy for some extra budsites. its really all about getting the canopy to be as even as possible for good light distribution.

32 plants is fine just make sure you get lots of airflow. trim the lowers kinda like a lollipop and you should do fine. sog is usually done in 6" pots so that is 4 per sq ft so your right there.

you cant veg the 32 plants and flower them to be longer than a foot tall, you need the right strain for this. but you have 2.5 feet you say thats not a SOG make youse of the height, you can easily set a scrog with 2.5 feet and veg some 8 plants then flower them. if it were a 3x4 i would have advised you to do SOG but in your case a scrog would be right

im trying to get away from Scrog.... im into to 6th week of flowering on my second Scrog, and to be honest, i hate training the plants to the canopy. Ultimately what i am trying to do in the end is to set up a almost fully automated system where i only have to cut the clones and check everything once a week or so, and Scrogs... well you kind of have to attend to your plants everyday for at least a month and a bit.

that is the second time someone suggested i make a 4x3 growing surface instead of 4x2, im am really considering it now, wouldnt be that hard to switch out for a bigger rubbermaid grow chamber. so lets say i change to a 4x3 surface area (where netpots will be placed), how many clones would you guys suggest? 15 - 20 ? still trying to keep plants around 2.5-3 feet @ harvest.

well if you can make it 3x4, then you could go with anything between 15 and 36. i have done 20 plants under a 400 in a 2.6x3 but i had the right strain. i would say start with 20 and see how much they grow, with experience you would know how much they stretch and how many you can add and how much of bottom branches need to be cut etc... if you grow constantly, then SOG is the best way to go ecause it gives the highest yield over time and costs less in power since you dont have to veg under the HPS. it's very low maintenance you only check on them and top res and wait. it's also less trimming fuss since less popcorn buds. the only reason i switched to growing bigger plants is becuz i cut down tremendously on smoking, so i grow like less than once per year so i start from seed and you couldnt do a real SOG started from seed
