How many plants could you grow in your backyard

before smell becomes an issue? I've never seen a marijuana plant in real life, but from what I've heard they smell pretty strongly. (That's one thing I like about mushrooms.) I'm wondering roughly how many it would take for your neighbors to become suspicious.

It all depends on your surrounding,

How close are your neighbors...

Can they see into your backyard ...

If you are on an acerage, then you should be fine just try to hide them from helicopters, the one thing I can tell you why people get caught is greed and showing people to brag.

For smell it all depends on differant strains for growing outdoors / smell differant plants smell differantly and are meant to grow outdoors.

I wish I could help out more but I need more information bongsmilie

More info, lemme see...

the yard is about 70' x 90' and the neighbors are close on both sides and can see into most of the yard. In the back, there is a small forest of maybe another 100' followed by a golf course. So there are tons of bushes to hide them in back there, but almost all of this area is constantly in the shade. As you get back to the sunny part, it gets a lot easier for the neighbor's to see.

I would only want a few plants though. I don't even smoke anymore, but get a rush out of growing edible mushrooms so you can understand how the thought of actually getting some MJ plants to bud makes my heart beat faster. :)

Can you recommend a good outdoor strain for the pacific northwest that would have a faint odor and not grow too tall?

Well I can help you out here. From what I've heard and read Blueberry does really well outside in the NW. But if your serious do some research about outdoor breeds for the NW climate and go nuts.

Height won't be a problem because there are ways of keeping the height down while making the plant spread out more and become thicker, like a bush.
its called Low Stress Training http://www.planetskunk.com/cannabis2335-0-asc-0.html

Your plant needs at least 6 hours a day to be healthy, if you can't grow them without your neighbors finding out because of space, it definately isn't worth doing it outside in plain sight because of the strict laws, plus up here in the NW theres a program that will give your neighbors a reason to report the grow to the police. The callers get up to 5000 dollars!
You could think about maybe making a cheap greenhouse though! that would mask the smell, the site, and also your free to grow some other things in the greenhouse too. such as pineapples! haha or pomegranates or lemons.

Awesome post.
That LST looks really cool.
Now about the light. Do they have to have some direct sunlight? I'm guessing they would die if they're in the shade all of the time. Doesn't that make it kind of hard to camoflauge them amongst other bushes?
