How Many plants can 250w Hps support????

How big would like them? How much space do you have? If it is a box or closet, I'd say 1 plant and you should be able to pull at least a QP. How much is the total cost of what?

a closet i was trying to grow 4 or 5 plants only about a month of veg then flower. the cost of the bulb ballast nd what not?

If you veg 4 for a month, I don't think you'd have room, unless you don't crop or top them at all, height might be an issue then. Most of the time, less is more! For the bulb/ballast/hood $150-$250 depending on quality. You'd want a fan for circulation as well as venting w/ inline or squirrel fan. That would be another $100. You will probably have about $100-200 worth of added expenses from nutes to duct tape to a lot of shit you didn't even think about adding into the cost.

Height is an issue because after your 250w/hps gets past 18 inches from the growth it starts to become inefective. A F&D system is a table that's flooded and drained with a timer and a waterpump periodically instead of watering in the conventional way. I fill my table with crushed lava rock and I start my clones in rockwell cubes I cut out from slab.

Yes, I do think you can do four with a two fifty, providing you put them in 12/12hr right after the first set of adult leaves are well formed. If I was to buy the lights I'd go with two 150w/hps because it will be more likely that you'll be able to get second hand ballasts really cheap as they are far more common than a two fifty.

yea my funds are the downfall you think t5's wud be better at the lower amount i have to spend
Before you buy anything new you should talk to a few electrical contractors because they do sell used electrical and 150w ballasts are standard outside lighting.

250 watt, 2' X 2 1/2' using 4 1/2 ft. of heigth closet.
Had 9 in there at one time and worked for awhile. 1 came out and into a different cab, 3 went male. That leaves 5 still doing well.
Need to keep them,,,, manicured(?). LOL 4 would be nice or better IMO. 5 is a bit crowded for my taste. A lot depends on how you grow. SOG I'd suspect could be up to 9 or more. I prefer FIM & LST. Does take more room than SOG ot SCROG.

Cost?
$200 for the HPS vented light
$200 for the air scrubber and blower
Now add to that paint rollers / brushes, gal. of Platnum White, inline duct fan (for lights off ventilation), pots, dirt, nutes, airator for water (I grow dirt), antiseptics / pesticides, speed controllers, timers, power strips, electrical wire nuts, soldering things, meters, MH bulb, weather striping for light-tite, intake filter & grill, supplies for cloning, the list just keeps going on. Probably adding another $400+ in the end.

Now, to add to that for the stupid short cut / money savers that I wasted because they simply didn't work? WAAAAY too much! :wall:

Follow the link ... check out the prices ... if you look at the HTG Supply house brand lights, where it says best value, unless it is a misprint the 400-watt HPS/MH is less expensive than the 250-watt HPS/MH, only by $3.00, but it is still 400-watts rather than 250-watts. You might want to reconsider a 250-watt because they are pretty weak. Both are magnetic ballast rather than digital and the metal halide bulb is a conversion bulb but if price is an issue it is about as good as you will do from a reputable business.

250-watt HPS/MH (conversion bulb) $167.95 plus shipping
400-watt HPS/MH (conversion bulb) $164.95 plus shipping

This is why I stay in thick with all the local growers and the dope dealers, but at the same time I pivet everything through the main pot dealer to keep my op secret. I run a major mother op and I can put out 300 plus, one foot snips every week. I send these snips out through the local dealer to other ops in exchange for the things I need to run my op. My moms only needed flouresent tubing to start and I scored two 150w/mh(streetlights) after I got started. I got the lava rock for my grow trough from some disgarded propane barbecues, and the trough with resivoir came from a disgarded constant flow system.

I thought about going w/ used or discount stuff. Can surely save a bundle using leftovers, hand-me-downs, second hand. But I was asked once when I saw a HPS in a yardsale if I would use it to grow pot. He mentioned he had a lot of related items to get rid of because he got busted.
My first reaction,, buy his stuff and have suspecting eyes watch where I go with it?

Naw, I wanted to remain a bit more discreet. I do little to nothing local that can be directly linked to a grow. (Polly-Puritan here. LOL)

I got my first blowerfan from an old Volvo and I ran it with and old 6 amp battery charger.lol, I, at that time had over 12,000 bucks saved up from working so expense wasn't the problem, it was coming up with a legitimate reason to buy a blower fan. I scored all the lighting I started with from the scrap too.

where you able to grow 4 plants under that 250hps? I have that light too and have been flowering 2 plants in 3gallon pots with it with amazing results. I want to try 4 now see what happens. I veg my plants for couple months too before flowering so they get pretty big. Buds are large, and very dense. last 2 weeks the light is probably 12 inches from canopy. I'm thinking I wont be able to get that close with 4 plants with the lack of light spreed to other plants. Anyway, very curious how yours turned out. keep blaze'n
