How many of you winterize before making vape juice?

Hey guys, im still kinda new here so forgive me if this is the wrong place for this but here goes:

I want to make some vape juice with some good quality wax from a dispensary because im tired of having to reload my dab pens so much.im thinking about winterizing it so it wont clog the attys on my veco tank, but elswhere ive been told not to bother unless its some shitty wax because it will strip the terpenes......my question is how many of you winterize before doing something like this, and will it even make a difference when the extract is relatively clean?

From my experience winterizing does strip terpines, but does help a lot with keeping the juice mixed and not clogging the cotton. It is a trade off. Personally I like to winterize then add vape flavorings so I can vape without anyone knowing there is cannabis in it. If you use a big tank and make your own coils winterizing isn’t really an issue because it cost about 10cents to make a new coil when it clogs up and they usually last a week.

Thanks for the reply.do you winterize with iso or everclear? And i guess if you want it to be the MOST efficient then winterizing is necessary....but i wonder just how much more life does it extend ones atomizers in a large tank vs. A rebuildable type and does it change the potency per hit by any significant amount?

Sorry for all the questions and i realize you may not have all the answers but if you have tried non winterized extracts in a sub ohm tank and can share some input please do!

Yes, my tanks are subohm, usually .14. If using store bought coils and not winterizing I would get 3-4 days per coil and with winterizing I would get 7-10 on a .4ohm Aspire Cleito coil. With rebuildable dual clapton coils I would get 7-10 without winterizing and 14 days with, but because I make time each weekend to make new ejuice and a new coil I usually don’t go longer than 7 days.

Non winterized juice seperates quickly in my tanks and I have to heat up the tank with a hair dryer of similar to get it mixed back up if it sits. So potency would be affected because the wax is at the top of the tank and filler of your choice (usually vg in subohm tanks, or real terpines if you are a baller.) When I mix with VG I usually double boil it for several hours with wax to get it mixed well, with alcohols like PG and vape flavorings it blends much faster but will just pour out the air vents on most tanks because it is too thin.

I winterize with 190 proof everclear.

I am no expert on the subject, but I have made hundreds of ml of weed ejuice in the past 5 years for personal use. I am sure professional CO2 extractors would laugh at me but it doesn’t matter, it works for me.

Thank you very much, this is actually very helpful.i think im finally getting the idea.i was a little worried about terpene loss but ehh what the hell, probably wont make a huge difference to me since im after recreational effects with this particular project rather than medicinal anyways.

P.S. might i recommend the veco tank from vaporesso.its air holes are on top if the tank so it doesnt leak.

Why certainly.i dont know the science behind it, all i know is that you dissolve an extract in ethanol (not iso), then you freeze it for about 48 hours and the undesirables like lipids and waxes will coagulate and sink to the bottom.you can then filter the solution with a coffee filter and you will have a much more refined product.

right on, so that would mix pretty well in some vg then?

filter it then evaporate the ethanol?

pretty curious about this.....thinking of making a peg mix as well

Thats about right, except vg is not good at emulsifying things at all, which is why the pg and peg are being used more.however, the winterized extract may be easier for the vg to dissolve...

I make my own shatter/wax using the quick wash method with Everclear. I want to try making some e-juice and bought some Holy Terp "Pure" liquid. Should I winterize my final product as well?

You should purify the oil as much as possible. Winterizing ethanol extract wont coagulate much fat because it dosnt extract wax but you can if you want. Shouldn't hurt anything .

I do. I QWET "both ever clear and material frozen over night" 3min wash and strain with a course strainer. Then that goes back into the freezer overnight and then strained through filters.
I've used and get great results.

I've used wax luquidizer, pretty convenient stuff. Been looking into the vapeurterp too, it looks even better.

I like and use them too. There terp and liquidizer are two different things though. They do have a Indica, Sativa and hybrid all in one.

Have you tried their terp with a corresponding strain? Like pineapple terp with pineapple express? You get the picture....

Awesome, so I have the Holy Terp Lemon Pure coming and I just ordered Wax Liquidizer with no flavor. My plan is to use it as the base and add a drop of Holy Terp Lemon for flavor.

That's exactly what you do. Try 1/2 drop first though, terps are very powerful in taste and smell.

Only there Indica, Sativa and Hybrid and I cut it with Wax liquidizer no flavor 1-1. 1 gram of concentrate and 2 grams of liquidizer.
