How many lights?

So right now I have 10 plans in a 4x4 tent and am running 2 600watt hps lights. I'm planning getting another tent that will be 4x8, I was thinking of running 3 600watt lights. Should I go that route or add a 4th? Or should I just put 2 1000watt lights in there? I was leaning towards 3 600's but any pros or cons or suggestions? I will be using soil also

I would rather have 3 600's than 2 1000's. You will actually get more lumens out of 3 600's than you will out of 2 1000's. Plus you will run cooler and if you are in a tent and could have height issues, you can get your plants much closer to the 600's than you can on 1000's. Just my 2 cents..

I have to say that I completely agree.


3x600's with super hps lamps will give you 3x95000 lumens which is 285000lumens.

2x1000's = 280000 lumens.

5000 more lumens and 200w less electricity used per hour.

I would go with 2 1000's. Yes you might get more lumens with the 3 600's. However, you get better penetration with the 1000's. Also, you only have to buy 2 ballasts instead of 3. 4 Bulbs instead of 6. I've always had better luck with 1000's vs 600's yield wise as well.

I didn't think of it like that. My plants now are pretty close to my 600s and they aren't burned one bit and they're doing great. I had a friend running 2 1000s and he burned/killed 6 plants. What if I was to get 1000s and run them at 75%? That would be 750watt with the option of 1000 if needed.

What are you running as far as a hood? You're buddy just didnt keep a good eye on his grow, thats not the 1000 watt lamps fault.

In my tent now I'm running 2 600 watt Apollo with non vented rectangle hood. I was thinking of 3 600watt round hoods. Do those disperse light better? Ya he didn't know what he was doing and wouldn't listen when I tried to help.
