i have an aerogarden hooked up to a regular outlet. i can just get an extension cord for more outlets but will that fuck up the circuit? i plan on buying 2 cfl sets, one 6500k n another set of 2700k. i plan on putting one on one side n one on the other side, then when its flowing time, switch the bulbs. so i ask how much watts should these cfls be in order to handle just 1 outlet. as far as ho wmuch is on the entire circuit, i have no idea. i live in an apartment complex n dont have a circuit breaker box. thoughts?

Well let's see if I can explain. A 15A breaker is most likely running the circuit.
So breaker size----volts------ max wattage allowed ----

  • 15 amp breaker @ 120v = 1440w(12 amps actual) max
1440w of Cfl's is an ass load. The k isn't important in this regard it the W's. No Cfl would be over a couple hundred W's. My biggest is 40W. Hope that helps.

Matatan: Why? Are you in love with the Edison Company? One of the advantages of the Aerogarden is that you have a complete growing system that is very energy efficient. What worries me more than anything is the word 'extension cord' which equals volt drop and if it's made out of what an electrician friend calls 'zip cord,' too much of a load could result in burning your house down. If you have a hood on your Aerogarden that accommodates three high intensity CFL's then you really shouldn't need additional lighting. If you get a couple of plants into heavy vegging with large fan leaves you may have a problem getting the light down to where you want it but that can be solved easily with reflectors.

For a couple of years I used cheap mirrors I bought from the Home Depot and Lowe's and I arranged them so that they were reflecting the light back up to the lower portions of the plants it hadn't reached before. The result was buds all the way down to the planting deck. Now before you go run out and buy mirrors, some of these guys pissed and moaned so much I stated thinking of using some thing lighter that would do the same thing.

This year I glued some 2mm Mylar to plastic waffle recessed fixture lenses that I bought from Home Depot and cut down to the size of my A/G's and they work just as well. In the long run they cost about the same to build as the mirrors but I don't have to worry about the weight of the glass or dropping one and having to vacuum glass shards from all over the place. Please consider it.

sounds great but how will that fixture reach my grow space(closet) without an extension cord?

Yo bro depending where u live u have a 20 amp breaker on a regular wall outlet. check your boxes for the amperage used by the bulb. by code (Electricians Code as i am an electrician) ur only suppose to run 80% of potential of any breaker that has a constant output.. So at 120 volt total, watts would be 2400 at 20 amps, just about or somewhere around there. just off the top of the dome. + RePP Please! Later, happy growing. and always happy smokin.

I say u take that vanity strap it to a board put some i hooks on it and the ceiling and put chains on it to adjust light height. strongly recommended for a cfl grow.
