I use a 68 watt 2700k cfl surrounded by 3 or so plants, along with 4 6500k 23 watt and like 15-20 2700k 23 watt bulbs...in a closet. added about half of the bulbs halfway through my last grows flowering cycle, and within 2 days the bud size and density more than doubled, but seemed to max out.

but that 68 watt at pot level works really well for light penetration to the lower branches...

I've been doing a continuous grow with 6+ small plants flowering at a time in a closet with 388w of CFL with great results but i'de recommend a bit more. Specifically I"m using 3x68w and 8x23w with the 68's haning between plants and the 23's forming the canopy.

I keep my appt at around 72-75 degrees, so in the closet, it only gets up to about 85 tops...i have several other plants (canteloupe, herbs, etc...) in the closet that get along really well with the light i have, and dont seem to diminish the growth of my girls in the least, so im hoping ive maxed out their growth for now...although i know i know, with a hps for flower, a mh for veg, a sealed temp/humidity controlled grow space, with a Co2 generator, and a million bucks worth of stuff...but with cfls and regular air flow, achieving sometimes 2 inches or more of growth a day is really saying something i think.

yup, those 42 watters would be good. Dont mess around with 20, 23, 26 watt lights, get 30 watts and up. They'll get a bit hotter, but get a good fan to cool the lights and another to bring in cool air to the chamber. This method of growing, where the seedling is put into 12 and 12 sounded strange to me at first..... and it still does. The plant can't physically flower right away, grow them to about 6 inches or something @18 hours. Like buddy just mentioned smaller plants need less light, so it's a good idea to keep em small.

Have you started anything yet, where's photos?

you dont need to vent cfls.. specially that small amount... only reason u might want to is the c02 exchange

ya it never gets that hot in my closet...i have a fan at my door and a fan on the top of my setup blowin over the plants and the only time it ever gets hot in there is when i put my door cover sheet down. so i can sleep and i have 16 cfls in there. 12 daylight (23 watt) 4 Softwhite (42 watt). my temps tend to stay between 78-86.

Flowering one Big Bud with:
  • 5 x 40w 2700k - side lights
  • 1 x 125w 2700k - overhead
  • 1 x 15w UVB 10.0
She's looking good!

thats alot of light....id like to see a pic of that if possible...im going to try and get a grow journal goin on here, but im limited to using others computers, so its a lil hard to get away with keepin my stuff secret...

i like the 250 watt 2700k cfl that you can get on ebay for like 40 bucks put that right in the middle . get some cheap 5 dollar security light fixtures at wall mart and put some 26 watt s in there so you can screw it in the wall between your plants plus if you can get some 50 watt led panels. but i did put a 70 watt hps in and noticed a huge difference just with that.

cfls are nice but the use way too much energy for a good sized closet and take way to long with very very light buds compaired to a hps. i love how cfls are good for stealth and money but the investment in a cool tube for heat issues is def worth it. esp when its harvest time
