late to party - but yes, ladybugs eat aphids. Aphids are destructive - if the ladybug is hanging around, she's finding food...she's not harmful, but her presence indicates a problem.

The ladybug itself is good but yeah that means other stuff is floating around. I gave ladybug a new home and exterminated everything else. Just got tracked in from outside. I personally would rather no insects. No eaten leaves etc. Maybe might add worms to my dirt at some point and get lady bugs if I need them but right then it was a problem.

Can't use Lady Bugs with HID lights that are not in cool tubes.
I tried it once, It was a Lady Bug Genocide. They all flew into the HID, and popped like pop corn.
They weren't all that cheap either. LoL Now I only grow once a year outside. No bug issues :)
