How is it that Some People Get 1 Ounce a Plant, And Others Can Get a Pound?

Most everybody says they can only get an ounce per plant on average. And most of them veg for about 2 months and only get the plant a couple feet tall, Then there's this guy that claims to have vegged for 5 weeks from seed and this is how big his Scrog got.

What I don't understand is how after just over a month a plant can get that bushy while others get scrawny little 1 1/2 footers. I realize there's SO many factors, Like nutrients, Soil, Lights, Blah blah blah, But 1 ounce compared to 1 pound? How can a few factors give you literally over 10 times the yield per plant? Here's what the plant looked like after a while into flowering.

Look again, not a soil plant, its hydro.
Not everyone can grow as well as everyone else, genetics make huge huge differences. And of course the way you grow, soil vs soilless vs hydro, etc.

No, it can, and in this case has. Just different strokes for different folks. I can barely keep a soil plant alive, yet few hydro gardens run as well as mine....
But a little faster is common in hydro over soil, a week off of a 10 week strain isn't uncommon, but yields is more nutes, genetics and environment than anything.

If someone veges a plant for 60 days and then only yields an ounce, they should subscribe to RIU and do less chatting and more reading... ;)

A thread I started a couple days ago I asked what everyones yield was and most of the posts said 1-2 ounces per. It just seems like 10 times the yield is so far out there. Is scrog just an amazing way of growing where 1 pound yields aren't unheard of, Or was this guy just a badass? Also, What yields do experienced growers on average with normal plants get? Is 6+ ounces per plant unheard of?

I get about 6-10 ounces per plant currently, using a 600w cooled hood in a 4 x 4 tent. Strains so far that produce those numbers are Pineapple Express and Bubble Gum. I tend to veg for about 6 weeks. Scrogging works so well because the plant is constantly releasing hormones in an attempt to establish a dominant stem. Because the scrogger keeps the branches horizontal, the plant continue to branch out and produce more flowering sites. This also is why LSTing and FIMming produce more yields.

Someone getting only one or two oz are probably going from seed to flower or are using clones with little veg time other than establishing roots.

EDIT: Wanted to add, my last plant gave me more than an ounce of hash just from the lower leaves and pop corn buds....

Thank you for the concise replies. Mind if I ask what nutrients you use? Honestly I haven't even tried growing, So I don't know what to expect, But 6-10 ounces sounds insane! How long have you been growing, And do you use soil, Hydroponics, etc?

It's all about your swagger buddy. Some are like kieth stone others aren't so lucky. Most people getting numbers like the bigger ones have worked with their strain for awhile and have everything dialed in. The ones getting 1 zip are more than likely using cfls.

6-10 ounces a plant isn't hard, you have to have the equipment. I wish I had 1000w, then i would aim for a pound a plant under a scrog. I use one nutrient..... well, I sometimes supplement, but that's because I know too much about growing this weed and just had to have all the stuff.... [/sarcasm].... lol I used to use fox Farms solubles and liquids.... I still have some left, so i tweak my general routine once in awhile, depending on the plant... I use GH Flora Nova Bloom through the entire grow. Once in awhile, I add Cal-Mag, because the formula is low in it for hungry strains like Pineapple Express and Bubblelicious. I am a hydro grower, but I also use soil, only outdoors.

My last grow was a scrog grow and I netted about 12 ounces off of two plants. My highest is 10 ounces off of one plant indoors. Outdoors is another ball game all together. You can harvest 2-3 pounds, sometimes more off a single outdoor plant.

Thanks again for the reply. +rep. How many months/years did it take you to get to the point of 6-10 ounces a plant? Also, How much does ventilation and good air flow affect a yield? From the Scrog pic I uploaded it looks like he's only using a fan in between the plants and light, And from what I've read, That's pretty much all that most people use. Do you think it's enough?

NOT MY GROW

I got the pics off a different forum, 31 days from the first pic to the second with 10 days 12/12 grown in soil.

Alot more depends on the enviornment than the nutrients. Save your pennies on the nutes and invest more in a perfect enviornment (lights, temps, humidity, co2)

Got some mixed opinions in here. One says nutes, Another says save money on nutes. I guess I'll just need the best of the best for all aspects, eh? Everyone talks about Fox Farm nutes. Does anyone have good or bad things to say about it?

Save some cash go with dyna gro. Lights and airflow are super important. You'll need fresh air proper ventilation etc. to hit the yields your wanting.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned - some people don't want to grow large amounts - not everyone wishes to be a supplier/dealer.
I grow simply to satisfy my own needs and anything more than an ounce a month is a waste.
My set-up provides a harvest every 5 to 6 weeks, uses very little power and I grow five different strains so I don't get bored with a single strain.

With the money that I have spent on my lights I could have a couple of 1000 watters and be pumping out pounds, risking burning down my house (which I own and the insurance company wouldn't pay a cent if it was a grow related fire), and I would have a huge surplus to sell (no thanks).

Ounces or pounds - depends on what you want and how you grow - strangely enough, it's the grower who determines how much they get per plant, if you want more and you are not getting it, then you need to do something different.

Serapis is the man so is scottyballs...Use a waterfarm and scrog if u want that kind of weight strains also matter with good genetics....
