how far to keep water level from net pots?

in a dwc setup how far do you keep the water level under the net pot in a 5 gallon bucket?

i plan on vegging for 6 weeks from clones in 5 gallon buckets than moving to a 27 gallon tote each plant.

i hope 4 600 watt hps lights will be enough for 3 large plants......


oh yeah and i will be watering from the top into thoses clay balls, but see i have to return the nutes back to the res for chilling so how often should i water or could i just keep the watering flowing into the clay balls?

the roots should be touching the water right? if so then at the edge of net is fine or even lower.

You don't want the water right up to the netpot, let the roots reach down for the water. As for keeping them watered until the roots are in the water, any form of drip system just has to be dialed in on a case by case basis, it's not as simple as how often. It's more like how wet? and then what you have to do with your system to kepp it there. Another alternative is described in the link below.
