I have used several methods to deal with this situation.

First, I trim the male,
all but the big fan leaves,
so he will stay alive,
and the roots don't die.
Cut all of his balls off.

Next, you might start to get Root rot.
You will know when you get it,
because the pH will fall to 4.5.

You need to get the unproductive roots out,
so that healing will be easy,
and to prevent further disease.

Pull the net pot up,
and use some scissors to chop the roots of the plant you are removing.
Cut just under the net pot,
to leave the rest of the roots in the rez.

In a day or so,
you will be able to pull most of the dead roots out by hand.

You will need to run an enzyme additive,
to eat the left over dead roots,
and you'll need some 35% H2o2,
to deal with any diseases.

That is what I use.

35% h2o2 @ 15ml/gl

The instructions on the 35% bottle,
recommends 10-20ml/gl

So I use 15ml/gl

It works for me.

PotRoast, you are correct about the H2o2.

The amount I mentioned is way too much.

The proper amount should be 2.5ml/gl

Excess 35% H2o2, will cause root damage, and stop growth.

if u want to keep the males then idk what to tell u, bc once my babies start showing sex the roots are massive and would seem pretty much impossible to just pull out , (if i wasn't using such a large system) mine come out trouble free, but if they are tangled the best thing i can say is to cut the roots then slowly untangle them
