How do I properly transplant?

my babies roots are growing out of the container they're in right now and I'm curious how do you transplant a pound of soil last time it fell apart on me I'm trying to keep the soil dry but they're starting to get sad. Any suggestions??

what kind of containers are they in? if they are soft container just wait til they are kinda dry and then turn the container upside down holding the main stem between your first 2 fingers and slowly squeeze and VERY GENTLY shake the container until it slides loose. If you have to and if the containers soft enough, cut it down the side with a razor blade. If they are hard containers your best bet is to push a flat object such as a very thin piece of wood or a long flat head screw driver or a paint stirrer (one of those little pieces of wood to stir paint with), and just push down the sides of the container with all the way around the outside. Just try to stay away from the rootball inside the soil you want to do as little stunting as possible with this. Good Luck! :joint:

you are the man! Thank you so much I've been depriving them of water trying to get some answers but I didn't want to do anything drastic they are in a soft container thankfully so if need be I can cut it like I did the cups they were in before, and I'm going to try tipping it before cutting so should I press the soil down to sturdy it to move it's pretty loose, but I'm sure losing some of it is just part of the process

Saturate the pot ,allow to drain, gently squeeze the sides and upturn the pot ,remove old pot and place the rootball in the new pot about 2x the size.

One thing I find useful when transplanting is to fill up the new container a little more than 3/4 of the way, dig out a little bit in the middle so your small container will fit, while judging how deep you want to plant.
Then take the small container and place it into the larger one and push dirt around it and then remove the small container, now you have a nice preformed hole to transplant into. Follow the directions above to get the plant out of the smaller container then set into the "preformed" hole you just created and gently back fill. Give a nice watering making sure you get both the new and old soil wet. This will further settle the new soil around the roots. After a couple of watering you may need to add more soil if it settles to much.
It has always worked good for me.

If your rootball/dirt falls apart too easily it may not be time to transplant yet. A good rootball should maintain its form and actually take some effort to 'tease' it apart...just because you have roots at the edges and bottom of the pot does not mean the plant is rootbound. What size container are they in right now and for how long?

Just get it done . It's Gunna be easy . If a little dirt falls out you'll be fine . Don't pack the soil. Just replant it nicely and fill it in with nice fresh rich soil.

you guys all rock I took all this advice and they had a healthy steady transplant, so I've got another question these are the last pots they will be in and I usually had the light around 18 inches away from the tops but I don't want to move it again so I put it at 2 feet and it seems like a good distance but I'm curious if there's a better length for stronger growth

because of the fact these new containers are bigger I had to re raise the light and I put it at 2 feet. Is this too high? I want this to be the last time I have to raise the light because I'm going to be flowering in a few weeks

Depends some on the wattage of light you are using. But raising the lights and allowing the plants to grow too it is a good growing habit...

Put your hand directly on top of the top node, if it's too hot for you thenvits too hot for the plant is the simplest way. Also, if you are growing indoors like me.... There's some seriously great ways to bulk up your baby's. Here is a great tip I was given for general health and growth..and I have to say that I experimented with it immediately only vanilla kush and those baby's are bullies! Buy a bag of sugar, a small pot of yeast and a coke bottle. Put a plastic cup of sugar into the empty coke bottle.... Mix it with warm but not hot water 3quarters of the way up and shake for 20seconds... Put 2 table spoons of yeast in pit bottle lid on and shake nicely for 20seconds.... Pierce a small hole in the top and put it in your tent. Co2 galore and your plants will thank you with some serious bush. I've topped one of my girls 8 times and can barely pick her up!
