How Deep to Place Seeds and How Wet Soil?

i just succesfully germed my 1st seed and put it about 1 inch deep in the soil and got it nice and wet and when i pulled out the pen i used to make the hole the dirt stuck to it does that mean its to wet and is 1 inch too deep?? update i reAD that what i did was too deep and wet so tries to scrape away the top soil but couldnt find the seed so it might be on the side of the container, is this a lost cause this seed\?​
