how can u kill all the bad things in ya soil.

is there any product out there to kill all the bad beasties in soils? so my soil is relativly if not definatly bug free.. just so i know next time around...

get food grade diatomaceous earth. its an ALL NATURAL, no chemicals, pesticide. Its quite hard to find, so your better off ordering some in a 5 lb bag on the internet. 40 lbs is like 20-30 dollars, so 5 pounds should be no biggie

and it wont kill any beneficial bacteria in your soil. only bugs with exoskeletons

one way to sure kill the bad things is to pasteurize, typically dry heat, 180f for an hour works well
this will kill any harmful insects, but the beneficial bacteria will survive
a standard practice in commercial greenhouses

that's one way, of course it's a low temperature(relatively)
but there are other ways, a steam chamber is sometimes used for this
i use an oven for small batches of soil, it is really remarkable, no bug will crawl from a properly pasteurized soil

sounds good ,, but is it smelly.. the only oven i got is in the kitchen . doubt the missus will like that 1 much if it does.. ..do u know of any good products that might help. or ur prefer just to cremate them mutha fookers

buy good soil . try to find some fox farms oceon forrest. i mix mine with sunshine pro mix and have yet to have any problems with pests. (knock on wood)

that is the downside, i have an oven that i can use just for that, not everyone does
however, it is possible to use a glass baking dish with glass cover for a low odor arrangement
this is only good for small soil batches, but those not impassioned with our hobby might be skeptical of dirt in the oven, no matter how well contained
an outdoors could be setup with black polyethylene and a thermometer, might take longer though, but the sun is free

pool stores have it. just look it up.home depot might have it.

Don't get it from anywhere that sells it for pools. its completely different from food grade. it could kill your plants and not stop the problem at all. Food grade diatomaceous earth is more fine and dries out the insects on plants, animals, etc.

was looking in the garden section at the home depot for some DE saturday and was told they didn't carry it, found it in the pool section sunday when i was looking for something else.

Does this kill spider mites as well?

Put it in a clear plastic bag and throw it on your roof for a week. That'll cook it.
