How can stress change plants to sex?

there are some that think too much stress will cause hermies and there are others that think it is pre-programmed in the plants genetics .
personally i think that if you take care not too stress your plants out too much then you are eliminating that possibility and what will be will be.

If something happens to a plant to cause it stress, does change to a hermy.
This is a really confusing subject for many growers. Sex is determined by the plant's genes before the seed is even planted. However, some plants may have a tendency to have both male and female flowers, especially if subjected to certain types of stress. It's not very well understood why this happens. Some believe it's a built in self preservation mechanism. Cannabis is one of the few plant species that doesn't normally have both male and femal parts on the same plant. It could be an evolutionary throwback. It's also believed that certain environmental conditions can influence sex as well. The same thing is observed in alligators. Temps are believed to influence the sex of alligators while they are still in the egg.
