Hot Spot temperature, and black thermometers

Hi All,

I have a thermometer that I keep in between my plants. I am assuming the recommendation that cannabis likes moderate temperatures in the low to mid 70s implies that I would actually measure the heat at the location of my plants, rather than for instance, taping a thermometer to the wall in my grow tent.

I can't seem to find a lot on this topic. A couple general grow articles suggest two thermometers, one in the hot spot, and another to measure room temps.

Lastly, my thermometer is black which makes me wonder if it is absorbing "extra heat" causing a higher than normal reading. I assume the ideal measurement tool for the hot spot would be an infra red tool aimed at the actual leaves of the plant?

So in summary:

1) Where should I measure my temps? In the hot spot, the entire room or both?
2) If both, what are the preferred temp ranges for the room and the hot spot
3) Does the color of my thermometer matter?

Thanks in advance,

The most important part to measure is above the canopy. I guess u could measure the room to if u want but u can just guestamate the room temp(should be lower) when u know the temp above the plants under the light. No the color does not matter. Temps are funny but dont bust your head trying to keep an ideal temp , lights on 72-81 i would say would by fine without worry. Lights off 60-71 is fine without worry. Now these are just rough numbers ,just dont let the temps reach the high 80's or low 50's and u should be fine. Now this just my opinion others may beg to differ.. Good Luck...

Happy Growing!
