Hood selection & room size

I have the LS24 hoods in a 4x4 area but I am not too happy with the way they reflect. Is there a better choice and does the size room play any part in the hood selection? For those who do not know what the LS24 hood is I included a picture. It measures 18x20 and has a UV stop glass. If anyone is interested in the hoods I have they will be for sale once I find which ones I am going to upgrade to. I would build my own reflector as well if I know it will be a significant improvement over my current hoods. I have all the tools needed to construct a hood including a welder if I decide to do metal. I am just wondering if say a 36" x 36" reflector would be that much better. Thanks for looking!

I see the difference. While its not much it makes a bit of a difference I would think. The ends on my hood are not angled. :-( For 40 bux or so you really cant go wrong. i dont think the 160 dollar difference is worth it. I suppose I will stick with these. Its not bad I just didn't know if there was something that was that much better. I guess not.

hey brother I just got my ls24 hood in today with my 600 watt light. I wish I had read your thread before haha but anyways I will be using it in a sort of stealth grow box which I am hoping to make as big as the night can handle. I also have some 40 watt fluorescents I plan to use for under lighting. well I guess my question is what size box or area would you recommend for this life's footprint?

I would still go with a 4X4 area. As I raised the hood the spread of the light was less of an issue. When I just had the 4 seedlings they all tilted to the center of the crow space towards the bulb. I will stick with what I have for now but I can see how a better hood could increase yield for sure. The center colas seem to be developing better. I am all about getting the best bang for my buck but could have probably justified the difference in the first grow which is almost done. When it comes down to it they work just fine but could be better. Here is what I want to get in the future and can be upgraded to a larger room if ever needed. Keep in mind that you can find them cheaper than this http://www.amazon.com/Coolable-Reflector-Location-Mounting-Manufacturer/dp/B00DNIP0N8/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8 Good luck with your grow!

Before i switched to de's, i used hydrofarm raptors which spread light really well over a 4x4. They are big hoods. I forget how wide they were but they were 40" long. Worked great. When I went to de's, I use sunsytem ac/de's and they put out a great 4x4 footprint as well. Increased my already great yields by 15-20%

Sweet man . I
I'm growing some stuff out right now under some CFL and a little hid but I'm in the process of building a pretty nice box with a 600 what HPS and a 400 watt metal halide
