everything is looking real nice! nice selection of photos! The buds are looking stellar! You are doing a great job, nice green & healthy. A+......getting real exciting now......I got a batch of fresh nutes mixing as I type this. Today is the END of WK #3- I will post photos after I get everything completed. I let my nute soup mix well with air stones for about 2hrs then PH it.

Thanks for popping in my friend, appreciate it. Loving this stage, kinda like Christmas every night. Reading through the last few posts of your journal right now and can't seem to find a blemish, looking really good. Beautiful. I'll check in after your new pics. Keep up the good work!

Looks good.

edit:

On the topic of Christmas. I like to time a grow into the winter months so that harvest comes right around that Christmas / New Year holiday time frame. It makes the holidays waaaay happier... never fails. Nothing like starting the New Year with your jars full of freshly grown OGK.

Yeah, I was just talking about how my next grow will be done right about that time. Regardless, I'll be burning like napalm come Christmas or not, jars are full...I suppose that kinda makes up for being an adult, and not getting the toys you wanted, ya know? And I'm stingy, so give me yours too, ya know, lol. Crazy!

Yeah, we can stay up late and have cookies for dinner, too. That's what it means to be an adult. Lol.

Noticed a little burn tonight. Had been going by my TDS pen, which is about 200 less than the Inline PPM monitor I have. So I backed off till the monitor was near 1350, and the pen is 1030.

Good spot on backing off the nutes Hob. Some people don't realize it for days and by then the leaves get frieddd. Also nice job on adding the extension/T for the waterfall effect. Should help add quite a bit of DO.

Thanks Hob and everyone else for answering my questions on getting a UC all set up. I've decided on using 2" PVC with Uniseals on 6x 5-gal. buckets. For now going to start with my 27-gal. totes for rez & top-up. I was going through my equipment list and had just a few more random questions if you don't mind. If you do, feel free to ignore me. LOL

- When I "Tee" off the return line (where the water pump intake will connect), what is the best way to connect that up? Should I use PVC reducers/adapters to incrementally step down from 2" to 1/2"? And then how can I connect a barb to that for the flexible return line to pump? Is using a soft line ok?

- From the water pump output, it needs to connect to the rez. Should I just do the same plumbing, but in reverse (1/2" up to 2") for entrance into the rez? I have heard that your return line should be bigger than your intake line, to help avoid over-pumping in the event of a clog or flow issue. Would that apply here? Plus the in-line filter I was looking at online comes in 3/4". Home Depot might have some other sizes but I haven't checked.

- I was looking at a 500GPH mag-drive submersible/in-line water pump. I'd prefer mag-drive for the reduced power consumption and to minimize heat in the water. Do you think 500GPH would be a good target for this size system (60gal. capacity with about 30-45gal active). Is it too much? Also, you noted that you run yours at about half. Are you halving the flow or halving the pump speed?

- Is there a preferred size of the water line that will connect from the top-up tote to the rez? 1/4", 1/2"? Not sure what size output the float valves usually come with. I plan on attaching the top-up float valve to a vertical dowel that will control the height of the water level so I can adjust it between veg and flower.

Alright I think thats all the questions I have now... sorry to bug. Oh and after we spoke the other day about having movable scrog nets for RDWC/UC, i got to thinking... ill update in another post.

cheers and thanks in advance,

And then how can I connect a barb to that for the flexible return line to pump? Is using a soft line ok?I use a T fitting for this, the connection consists of two 2" slip fittings and one 1/2" threaded fitting... From that I use a 1/2" double male threaded fitting .... from there I connect my 1/2" ball valve.... from there I use a coupler 1/2" Female threaded & female 3/4" threaded..... from there I attach the inline filter.... from there I use another coupler 3/4" female threaded to 1/2" female threaded.... from there I use a barb fitting with a 1/2"male threaded end to 1/2" barb.... from there I attach my 1/2" flex tube to the water pump.

Are you halving the flow or halving the pump speed? I too run mag-drive supreme pumps, 500gph should be plenty, I had to match my pump to the size water chiller I'm running 750gph for a 1/2Hp chiller. I think he's halving the flow

The float valves come in 1/4 of 1/2" the bigger the line the faster you'll fill your system, The float valves are sold with either short of long handle floats both are adjustable for multiple water levels.

Alright I think thats all the questions I have now... sorry to bug. Oh and after we spoke the other day about having movable scrog nets for RDWC/UC, i got to thinking... ill update in another post. I took a look at your scrog idea... looks a little over engineered.

Hope that helps

Hey UC,

Thanks for the feedback on the piping and adapters. Looks like my list is complete and will be picking up the rest of the equipment very soon... thanks again!!!

Backed off the nutes again last night, was still getting a rise. Flushed 5 gallons Flora Kleen mix through each plant, and settled the nutes at 1100 ppm. Tonight it was right where I left it, and they also drank 2 gallons. PH is at 5.5.
Did a bunch of super cropping, right after I had to remove the largest plant I had going. She was choking off the other 2, and was really slow to start flowering. Been 3 days now, and the 2 that are left look good.
Also shut down one side of my system. Which doubled the flow, and halved the water in the system. This is how I'm using it next grow, so figured I should try it. The flow is amazing now, lots of bubbles in the reservoir, and without an airstone.
Here are some pictures from tonight.

Started on my new grow room today. Temps have dropped enough around here to start growing again in my shop. (20X30) I'm pulling the 2 empty pots out of my tent tonight and moving them to the new grow room, which will be for veg and cloning only. The way I see it, I can transfer the girls to my tent from there come flowering time, same pots, lids and net pots etc...I'll be using a 250wMH and more of a top feed on this system. I'm about 4 weeks from the end of my current grow, so now is the time to get the next set ready. I'll have some pictures soon.

Question?
I have read on here so many different opinions on how long to flush. So I'm still debating....I plan on using flora kleen with R/O water...Anyone have a clue as to how long is long enough. 1 week? 2-3 days? Thanks in advance.

I've read that a 2-3 day flush is cool for undercurrent systems.

thought I would stop in and see how things were looking.......and I must add they look great! - Flushing - IMO - I would invoke the "make it rain" effect - which would persist of basically drowning your plants for approximately 4-5 days. Basically you turn off all water pumps/air stones - your not adding oxygen anymore.....thus drowning your plant but not allowing the roots to dry out. After hours of research and reading etc.....it says after you drown - harvest your plant or plants.....dry them with the leaves and all for approx. - 3-4days in darkness - then trim as you normally would and put directly into mason jars - this basically shortens the cure time - you got 30day cured bud in 5 days.......how you say? Fermentation of Alcohol - I personally haven't tried this - but I plan on doing so with current grow.....

Got both the exhaust and fresh air fans put in today, as well as the light hung. I'll try to finish it up after I get the pots out of the tent tonight. Here are some pictures, the space is 4X4.

Thanks for the reply guys. I'll probably will go with 2-4 days on the flush. Starting to see alot of swelling in the buds, and the super cropping has helped alot, buds everywhere...can't wait...

I've said it before, but I'll say it again. This is just an ill DIY setup. Have you thought about going to larger buckets since you'll only have two of them next time around? The same could be said for the netcups, I think.

Totally excited to see what you do with the random genetics.
Thanks again man, I love it so far. And alot cheaper too. I have considered going back to 5 gallon buckets, but I'm not sure yet...might stay with these since I'm not having issues, and the net pots are the perfect size for quick rooting. I used a bucket net pot once and it took forever to show roots, plus I don't use top flow on the UC anymore so I doubt I'll go bigger.
