Home-made Wetting Agent Application Frequency

So I'm going to do some propagation using Peat-moss and perlite, however, I'm aware of peat tendency to repel water if allowed to dry out past 30% moisture. I would like to use a wetting agent on the mix to avoid this. I'm aware I could use something like Dr. Bronners soap, but How would I apply it? Just once? Or will I need to use the soap throughout propagation?

I am thinking I need to just soak the mix once with it, then it should be good to water for a while. I just don't understand how plants will survive If I feed them soapy water every time.

I found a gallon of yucca extract online, but it was $99.. fuck that.
Anyone use peat & perlite without wetting agents? Is it really that bad of an issue?

I was looking into wetting agent for my soilless pot too...im not sure if the Earth Juice have one...so I figured if i can feed with hydroponic nutrient then i dont have to worry so it worked out good for my lady plant...also it will help to keep retain moisture even more is put the all purpose rock (landscape or decoration at the homedepot in the soil bags section) on the top of soilless, its really good too...I hate to see the flying gnat came into soilless to eat the nutrient down there , feel me bro

Soap is harmless to plant roots.

Dish detergent can be harmful to your plants, but Dr. Bronner's won't cause any harm.

I would use the 'baby mild' unscented variety. Add a couple drops every few waterings.

The rewetting issue in peat is usually only bad if you allow it to get completely dry between waterings, which you shouldn't do anyways. I use coco instead of peat, so rewetting is never a problem.

Thanks cocodreams, I have been looking into coco coir as well, I'm just a little strapped for cash right now, plus I have a 4 cubic ft. compacted peat bail so I might as well put it to some use.
we are using coco in the greenhouse at my school. I have not tried it with my medicine though. One day I'm going to ask my instructor for a few gallons of it just to try it out.

Coco is spot on; a wetting agent (aka surfactant) is just a surface tension reducer, i.e. "soap". As coco pointed out, do not use detergent. I would also avoid any other things like scents or added color. Depending on how much water you're using, use a couple of drops per gallon.
