HLG550 vs Gavita? Anyone with experience with either/both?

miles off fair so until you do it right you just dont know! i think the differences over a large grow would add up so much that it would be hard to ignore.

thing is here, most people have one type of lighting. i threw my hps in the bin so i cant do it and theres no way you'll catch me buying another one! no bulb changes, better spread and higher efficiency just makes my brain think i know the outcome...when i honestly dont know for sure
All I can do is work with what I have in hand. Was just offering I might still do it next run just for myself.

So your promoting no dehumidification during lights out when fans are going to be minimally or not exchanging air at all?
Basically, what your describing only works if your room mating with your grow tent and sharing the conditioned space of your home and can run exhaust 24/7 but even then the humidity in your home is going to rise like a mofo....
I run 4x2 tents, 5x5 tents in a residence as well as large grow rooms in a warehouse with NO AC, and NO dehueys based on lots of fresh air exchange and lots of air circulation.

I do use HRVs for part of the incoming fresh air exchange. helps to keep the air warm in the winter and lowers humidity.

You must be in a very dry climate?
HRV?

To HPS fanboys: There are a lot of people killing it with modern LED tech. You don't need to deny the reality of that and blow the cons out of all proportion to feel good about how you grow.

To LED fanboys: There are a lot of people killing it with HID. You don't need to trash the established methods to bring attention to how good the tech you're using is. Best thing LED users can do to convince people is to keep growing the dank.

To both groups: Chill the fuck out. They're just lights.
the problem is that LED fanboys ALWAYS compare their grows to 1000 watt hps, we all know you can't compare a single source light to multiple lighting.
Then, after Clearly lying about numbers, FOR YEARS, they come up with new buLLSHIT all the time. Better quality, faster finishes, half the wattage for more yield, magical unicorn farts and many other bullshit claims. HPS fanboys NEVER have to do that.

Sweet, another $700 piece of equipment on the led grow invoice :P

No issues with pm or bud rot at this high humidities in flower?
That piece of equipment does not use a compressor two fans running in opposite directions across a heat exchanger. Much cheaper to run than an AC or a dehuey with a compressor.

I keep a lot of air circulation going 24 x 7. Leaves are dancing. That's the key don't let moisture or dew collect between leaves or on developing colas.

and oh btw the HRV is not specific to LEDs. The warehouse is 50% leds and 50% HPS. We don't have any heat in the warehouse so we need some of the Infra red rays from the hps to warm the plants and drive transpiration. Without the HRVs I would have to heat the building and run sealed with CO2 and dehueys\AC ewwww!

Angry generalizations don't help anyone and you've demonstrated my entire point. They're just lights. Nobody is threatening your family, nobody is stealing your car or setting your house on fire. They are just lights. Chill out.

why would I be angry? I am still turning out almost 3 lbs a light with my 2 year old hid bulb.
the thread title is HLG550 vs gavita, the topic being the differences between the 2. the point of a forum is for discussing things I just pointed out some of the differences. the most important one being that comparing them is dumb. so, no I won't " chill out" as i am chill as it gets.

Here is my take. A bunch of shitty Chinese companies spent years making exaggerated claims about their crappy, inefficient blurple panels and pissed a lot of people off. It pissed off a lot of people who were suckered out of their money. I completely agree that it was a bunch of bullshit and it gave led a bad name. The problem is that people won't let it go. So now we have honest, reputable companies like Timber and HLG that are making killer lights and back their claims with hard science and data sheets and yet they are still getting shit on by HID growers who just won't let themselves believe that led could ever be worth a shit. That may not be true in your case, but I see it over and over in thread after thread. Also, a 1000w gavita will outperform the 550 if we are going by the numbers. The HLG 600 will get closer, but I still think the ppfd is a but lower.

but that is just the thing, LED users STILL make bs claims about better quality, huger yields, 300 watts will do same as 1000 hps and other things. you just can't compare the 2, YET it is always the led guys who start the comparison threads and also start with the unicorn farts. I honestly think the bud i see from led looks funny. that is just MY opinion,

Holy shit, this thread really heated up.

Bottom line is that both HID and LED grow great weed. Some of us think one is better than the other, but even though it would be very easy to stay calm about the whole thing, the fanboy bullshit kills almost every damn thread. A little testy behavior now and then is understandable, but for fuck's sake, some really lose their shit over the whole thing...
