Hermaphrodite Inevitable?

here's the problem. I flipped my plants into bloom(12/12) three weeks ago. soon after i flipped i went out of town for a couple of weeks,I had my roommate add a light to the growroom after 1 week. He forgot to adjust the timer for that light (1000hps) and it remained at 18-6. so weeks 2 and 3 had this light on blasting for an extra 6 hours a day. I went down there and thought they didnt look right. too long and wispy near the tops. I looked at the timer and my heart sank. I put the light back on 12/12 but I am wondering if its too late for this crop. will they become hermaphroditic. there are different strains but they all have a similar appearance. will they fill in or should it start over? i haven't seen the male flowers at the base of the node yet and i've looked extensively but i assume there coming. Also if they can regroup do i let them go the 8 weeks they need from now or from when they were first flipped or somewhere in the middle...sick to my stomach.:-( Thanks to anyone that can give any insight.

I dunno man, I wouldn't necessarily say inevitable, but I found this:

If it were me it would be a matter of whether or not I needed the space right away, or if I could give them some time and keep checking them, but I would have a hard time ditching them at the point you're at without knowing for sure. Sorry didn't really give you an answer, just an opinion, but it looks like you're only a couple steps into Mr. XX's strategy for intentionally creating hermies. So I guess it's a crap shoot?

Well IMO you could use some DM reverse with a wetting agent and make sure the dont go hermi.
just a thought

You could end up with some huge buds if they fill in lol :D

i got the time and space. but dont want there to end up being pollen all over the place for the next round. so invested in these though. hurts to think about choppin em down. little girls never hurt nobody

i don't see the big deal, sounds to me as if they've just gotten 2 more weeks of veg than what you had intended them to have.. put the light back on 12 / 12 and leave it like that and i'd think that they should be fine..

I think his (or her) worry is that they were on 18/6, then put on 12/12, then accidentally back on 18/6

doesn't sound like they ever went on 12 /12 , or am i missing that part?? i thought he said that the dude added the light, which put them on 18 / 6, wasn't sure if he had them on 12 / 12 before that, which is what confused me..

I'm pretty sure that pollen has a limited life span, like I think if you're saving pollen to pollinate females, if not fresh, has to be refrigerated or something to preserve it, don't quote me, but wouldn't this mean that whatever pollen may potentially end up in your room would only actually be viable for a limited time

dunno, that was just my interpretation of what he said "soon after I flipped to 12/12, went outta town, bla bla room mate back to 18/6"

so.. Hemi, were they ever actually on 12/12, if they were, for how long?

Something like this happened to me.
My old lady hit the timer with a vac cleaner and 1 of the lights was coming on for 30min in the middle of the night.
These plants were about 3wks 12/12.This was enough to kick them back into veg.
I found the prob. & kept going 12/12.I lost a few weeks time but had no herms.
All these plants were grown from fem seeds and i had no herm issues.

I'm not an expert, but I do recall seeing that pollen from the ice age, and old tombs, can still be used to pollinate plants today.

hey, thanks all...yeah i think im just gonna keep a close eye on them...to clarify they were in 12/12 for the first week then 18/6 for next two weeks, now back in 12/12 for almost a week...they're not really showing alot of activity these last 5-6 days, starting over i guess. p.s. what is this DM spray you speak of?
