Gospel truth!

Makes those long hours at the computer pass quickly while painting digitally.
I use Corel's "Painter 10.1" for the artwork then, if needed, finish it up Photoshop if it needs minor color/brightness/contrast corrections before locking it in for printing (I have an Epson Stylus Pro 7800 wide-format printer).
All paintings are created from scratch (blank canvas), and I paint them at the full size they will be printed at (poster sized: 24" x 36").

Thanks LeeroySlim, painting definitely helps keep me sane.

Here is one of the paintings I am currently working on (I have 2 in progress simultaneously):

Day And Damnation 17e_bak.jpg
*this one is titled: "Day And Damnation"

Next phase is clothing for the warrior and all his details, then punch up the colors here & there, add some little details where needed and will be done.

Then there is this one, titled "Twilight And Suffering" (just finishing up with the landscape part of the background on this one):

All of my paintings are done digitally now (I still paint with acrylics once in a while though) and I use "Painter" from Corel.
It's a really neat, flexible, powerful art program that puts tons of tools at your fingertips (I use a Wacom "Intuos 3" graphics tablet also).
Been using "Painter" since 1992, and it has become my main tool for painting (unless I need to paint something on a particular surface).
Glad you liked the works, and will be posting the finished versions here as time goes by.

I was WAY stoned when I painted this one!:blsmoke:

Creekbed5b.jpgCreekbed5_small_b.jpgCreekbed5_small_c.jpgCreekbed5b_close.JPG
"Granite Creek"
20" x 16"

Just decided to paint a whole bunch of rocks one day.
Inspired from hikes along Granite Creek back home in Alaska as a kid. It's an absolutely raging river during the Spring thaw & early Summer, but dries up almost totally as the Summer progresses until it's just a creek winding it's way through the rocks & driftwood trees.
The small rocks were maddening to paint, but I had a lot of fun painting the bigger rocks.

Here's a bunch of earlier works I'd painted while still living in Alaska (all digital paintings):

*the dragon hatchling is actually a pen & ink drawing I did and then scanned into my computer. It's still on the "Must Finish" list

Here is a print of an early version of "Twilight And Suffering" that made me decide to start all over and expand my original idea of painting just one fake book cover to painting a four-part series of book covers that follow a general theme based in the titles ("Dawn And Despair", "Day And Damnation", "Twilight And Suffering", and "Night And Redemption").
This was also my first attempt to do a digital painting at such a large size (24" x 36").
I'd just built a new computer for my artistic endeavors (based around an Intel Core2 Q9450 quad-core processor overclocked to 3.5-gHz), and wanted to see if I could bring it to it's knees by painting something big.
Well, long story short, my art software, "Painter 10.1" and "Photoshop" are no longer limited by my hardware and I can paint as fast as my hand can move the stylus across the graphics tablet with almost no lag. :blsmoke:

@Murfy:
Glad you liked some of them:smile:
I'm using an art program from Corel called "Painter" .
I start with a blank screen, and either a thumbnail doodle I drew on paper or just an idea in my head.
When painting my warriors I have recently started posing for the camera with the 10-sec delayed shutter.
10 seconds seems like a long time until you have to run across the room, get up on some unstable surface and hold an exaggerated pose steady enough for the auto-focus to latch on before the shot is taken. And I'm usually baked, too.
Once I'm satisfied with the pose, I reference it to paint the character into the scene.
While I'd love to claim that I use my own physique for the warriors, I am actually just your average, semi-active computer geek who's 6' tall and 150-lbs on a good day.
But a lifetime of drawing superheroes and studying actual anatomy makes painting the human form easy enough once I have the pose locked in how I want it to be.
Here is a sneek peek at the last book cover in this series of four covers, "Night And Redemption":

*it's a very rough work-in-progress. There will be some huge & hideously scary monster/demon of some sort rising up in the flames that he will be facing off against. And he won't be naked, it's just easier for me to figure out the clothing & armor if I start with a naked body.

Made a little progress tonight.
Finally came up with an idea for the "bad guy".
Will be fading the bottom and will be adding some flames in front of him, and lots of details to come tomorrow.
Also started adding some clothes to the human warrior. Lots of details to go on him, too.

More to come soon.

Fantastic baddie in the last pic, DB. Do you make names and stories to go along with your art, or is it just, like, a snapshot in time, without any backstory?

I would absolutely read a novel based on that last pic. Hell, I feel like I could write a novel based on that last pic.

@RS Thanks for the kind words! (love your noodles, by the way) bongsmilie

I am planning on expanding each book cover into an illustrated novel.
I've written a complete back-story, have all the characters named with their histories, a map of the world they all live in with back-stories for every country and it's various citizens, and have a coherent story outlined from beginning to end.
I'm planning on making heavily illustrated novels (painting several scenes from each chapter of the books), or as graphic novels.
I'm one of those people who comes up with entire stories for every painting I do. When I'm painting, I kind of lose myself in the scene I'm working on, and my mind comes up with the stories on it's own to make sense of what I'm working on.
Finally think I'm getting closer to being able to make it happen, and will be seeing it through until the end to see where I can take it.
Might flop and go no where, but I'll never know until I try.
Thanks for checking my stuff out, and will posting more soon.:blsmoke:

Dang, thanks for the compliment EP. :)
Been drawing & painting since I was a little kid and, after 40 years of working at getting better, it's nice to hear some other people like it (other than my wife and my mom). ;)
