Hempy Design Questions

That is a very interesting twist to what I was thinking about. Might be fun to try it out. You could grow them up, cut the branches for clones and see what happens. It would be a fair amount of stress to the plant so you might want to make sure you aren't risking hermies.

I like the idea. I was just thinking of doing 6-8" pipe though. Bigger size but similar idea. I would love to hear how it works.

gday gang, i want to do hempys (currently grow dwc) and am just wondering how the buckets are setup with hydroton and perlite? is it layered? mixed together? im imagining layers...im thinking hydroton to drain hole, a mix in the guts and some form of cap.. is this right? thanks for your time lads

hey scroga. im about 18 days into flower with my hempy buckets pretty much as you just described. i have the res filled with hydroton, a coco/perlite 50/50 mix above that, with a light hydroton cap on 2 of them. not much diff between the two with the cap and the 3 without except its easier to water the ones with the cap without worrying about a mess. dont have any pest issues so cant really comment on its effectiveness in that aspect. they drink a gallon a day easily though at this point

Awesome thanks for the reply man....do you have a 1 gallon rez in the bottom of your pots? Just trying to understand how you know how much they consume? Thanks for your time

yep bro my res's are all about 1 gallon. this is my first hempy grow and first grow for a longgg time so i kinda experimented with the hole placement and in one case used two holes, just to see if there was a big difference. not using clones so its kind of dumb to run an experiment in those conditions but i cant see any drastic differences. but yeah my res's are all pretty uniform around 1gal

a lot of people pour a gallon of water in the bucket then mark it there and drill hole. hope that helps with your question.

if using PVC , the pipe is cheap and the caps are $$
they make these things called test wafers, they're somewhat light duty but are like the things on both sides of a tootsie roll can
you could use pvc primer and glue to do the seal, wait a day or so, then put the res holes in and you're good!
wafers are say 30cents as opposed to caps being $2.00(guessing)
