HELP!

Hi everyone. I'm a newbie here. And to growing as well. tried a few soil runs to no avail. I seemed to be runnin into root rot a lot with dirt. just set up a top drip system. using perlite medium. using cfls on account of space and so to remain at regular electric ratings. gorilla unfortunately.. anyway my baby girl looked GREAT as she came up and got her first leaves. then they pointed up. now because I'm runnin cfls I have them within 3-5 inches from her. all In all its about 10,000 lumens . A box fan is blowing to keep things cool also. using a VERY small amount of nutes. A 5-1-1 at about 1/8 strength. she was lookin great and like I said started pointing up and then she laid down. I've added a lil media in to give more stability and no good. I propped her up by laying a qtip right beside her holding her up a lil bit but went in this morning and she was layin down again n starting to turn yellow. so beings root rot has plagued me before I wanted to check her roots. so I VERY CAREFULLY dug beside her and followed her roots down and they look pretty good. Not so much white though they had a green hint to them.. so lol after all that, I'm again very new to this and am in need of help. thank you all for any info or advice

Root rot = too much water and poor air exchange. Really no need to look at roots until you pull it up (creates stress !!!) Marijuana is a hard plant to kill - stop watering for a few days and letting the soil adjust to a dry condition might help re-vitalize the plant - do not feed nutrients- just water and use the finger test to check moisture levels (for soil). Happy Culrtivation. But for hydro - your nutrients are causing this to much. What's your nutrients

Using hydro system. top feed. Nutes are 5-1-1 fish fert at a VERY VERY low strength. MAYBE 1/8 recommended. I don't want to shock her. I had the lights right on about 3-5 inches away. I moved them to about 12" away.

If your using tap water, don't add any nutes until after seedling stage. Worked for me after reading that the essential nutrients is already in the tap water. Just let the water sit for a day or bubble it for a few hours before using it.

Does your top drip run constantly? That will over water for sure. By the way I'm a newb myself and I wouldn't dare answer a hard question but this is the simplest thing to have an issue with and everyone warns against it.

Its cool man like I said I'm grateful for any advice or input. But no I use bottled water. and yes I run my drip constant for the most part. I turn it off overnight sometimes. but I also am using mostly perlite as a medium and also have a couple straws sticking into the pot to allow air supply to the roots, I did CAREFULLY dig down beside her to check root system and it looks good and healthy just a light green tint.

Yeah, that constant drip is too much at this stage. I used to start in solo cups with a few holes in the bottom filled with perlite. I would soak it initially but just give it a spray or two of water (regular spray bottle) daily after that, sometimes none. Don't need much water at this stage and I wouldn't even use any nutes for two to three weeks or until it's got some leaves and they are turning yellow.

Lol no worries porter. and thanks frosty, il give it breaks from the drip. She does have her first leaves but they have turned yellowish Brown and seem to be drying out . I don't want to change too many elements at once but that will be 1 of the things I change. I also cut my light supply in half n moved them further away. what boggles me is that she started changing when I wasn't changing the environment....but I'm in no way shape of form a green thumb lol

Ok news of this morning; no substantial change. leaves are slightly Brown and look brittle and dried out. turned EVERYTHING off lastnyt so no water and no lights overnyt..... 2day I'm only gonna run about 3000 lumens on her. Also gonna be adding fresh water to reservoir. I have noticed that the water in res and running thru stays really warm. may need somethin to control that.... anyway top of the mornin all

Oh and hitman, u gotta be careful usin tap water cause the chemicals used to sanitize it. like chlorine. I don't kno what ur local water is like but around here that's a dead plant for sure lol

I would take that box fan out of it. Humidity is essential for a seedling. Wait till it grows a bit before introducing a fan especially of that size.
Did you wash your perlite before using? Have all your levels in check (ph,ppm, etc)? Maybe res is too hot?

I see you stated you had a lot of root rot with your soil grows. Maybe you've been over watering? Jumping to hydro i suspect is a much bigger learning curve to take on so make sure to do your homework and you should be good!

Thanks blendy. Yea I have all my water ph'd and all. I flushed the res 2day with fresh filtered ph'd water. Have the fan goin just to keep heat down. even tho I'm running cfls I still have a temp of about 80°f

Hopefully it turns out alright. I used to always start my seeds the same way so I think it's the over watering based on the discussion, sounds like you have it handled. I would highly recommend running a few easy and cheap to grow plants when learning hydro. Garden beans or lettuce for example. Just run them on the side of your main plant and you'll learn a lot. It's very, very inexpensive and you'll really benefit because you can experiment without loosing valuable seeds/seedlings. Be careful though, it's addictive growing hydroponically. I have tomatoes, peppers etc growing allover my house now.
