Help with curing please.

Good afternoon all! Happy football Sunday!

So I am a CFL grower and recently harvested the first of my seven plants. It had 7 colas and weighed in dry at 18g, so the nugs are fairly small for colas.

I trimmed my branches, hung them to dry for 36 hours, and afterwards the stems are snappy (not fully dried or brittle) and the outside of the nugs were firm. It was dry enough I smoked a test bowl with no problems.

So into the jar they went this morning. My question is, I have been burping the jar every few hours, and my buds are pretty moist again. Not unsmokable, I tested another small bud to make sure it wasn't *too* wet... but I am wondering, is this normal?

I have the lid off the jar in my cupboard for a few minutes to let some moisture out. But should I let em sit out and air dry for a few more hours and put them back in? I don't want crispy weed, but the last thing I want is to have it mold.

I've never really done a true cure before. I have grown outside for years and after harvest we just hang dry it and then throw it in paper bags for a month...

This is all new to me :bigjoint:

What you did by putting them in the jar early is sweat the moisture out. If it's not too damp, you can leave it in the jar with the lid off, or you could put it in a paper bag/box for a half day or so before putting back in the jar.

Try not to over-complicate things when it comes to drying/curing. As long as you dry the weed slowly, it should come out fine.

People here have mixed opinions on this, but I think not a big problem to dry for too long, but it's a huge problem to jar too early and just let it go. Weed is never ruined by not moving to jars fast enough.

Thanks dude.

They were pretty dry when I put 'em in. Like I said, they were pretty small nugs, so I didn't want them crisping out too quickly. After only 36 hours you could hear a slight "crunch" on the outside of the buds.

I stuck 'em in a paper sack (aka Saints hat) and I'mma let em air out for a few hours and re-jar them.
Thanks man.

That's basically the simplest way to get it right. If the outside is crispy, put it in the jar. If it becomes spongy in the jar, put it back out to dry. That sweating process improves the drying in my opinion. In a way it's how you know you got it right without any meters.

When it stops becoming spongy in the jar, it's the perfect humidity, although a fair warning, I like my weed a bit dry.

Thanks dude.

As mentioned above, your buds did exactly what they should have done when they felt moister after being jarred for a few hours. Since you're early on in the drying/curing process, you can dump the buds in a paper bag overnight with the bag folded over once. Drop a hygrometer in there and notice how much drier they are the next morning.

Assuming they feel dry to the touch again and the hygrometer is down to 65% or lower, put them back in the jar and check again every 4 - 8 hours. You may have to do this more than once, as 36 hours is a fairly short dry cycle DEPENDING ON the temp and RH in your drying room.

When they're dry enough that the buds 'rattle' when you spin the jar, they're dry enough to stay in the jars, but keep opening and feeling the buds for a week or so to release more moisture and to let fresh air into the jars. Be sure to keep the jars in a cool, dark place like a closet for curing and long term storage.

All good advice up there...
only thing I do diff then alot of ppl is I clip buds off stems and clip the buds as far down as I can, I put them on a mesh drying rack and they dry in a cpl days. Jar for 12hrs, throw back out to dry another 12 hrs, then back to jar. Smell starts in a couple days. Keep them in dark as much as possible

Hard to go wrong with a method like that!
