Help with Canna Caps Please!

I've been reading for days and can't figure out the correct dose for an experienced/mid to high tolerance and a beginner/ low tolerance edible user. I made canna coconut oil using 1oz. of frosty trim and popcorn buds with 1/2 cup of coconut oil. I used the oven method using lecithin. I ended up with 2.25 oz of oil. How do I know how much to put in the caps? I will be trying them first and have never done edibles before so I don't want a bad experience and what I've read is all over the place. Please help!

Well I just filled 1 geletin cap full, one cap 1/2 full and one cap 1/4 full. I will take the 1/4 full one first and see how that does. If not strong enough I will take the 1/2 full one tomorrow night and so on. If it turns out that the ones that aren't full is enough I guess i will add more coconut oil so I can fill them up.

I use 00 caps and fill them but I use sift, so it's more concentrated and judge the dosages in mg based on what I put in divided by how many caps the batch fills. I only use 6 teaspoons of oil and about 1/2 tspn of soy lecithin, then add a couple of grams of sift. That makes about 21 caps so if I put in 2 grams, they work out to about 95mg each. If I want lower dosage I add less or vice versa.

In your case I'm not sure what a good dosage would be as it's not concentrated but the way you're testing it will work.

That's a lot of oil, it should make a lot of caps. I'd think with raw weed you'd need somewhere around 1/4 to 1/2 gram. You started with 28 grams so if you made 56 caps they'd be 1/2 g each, double that many for 1/4 g caps. Once you find the right dosage you can adjust how much oil you use to make the right amount of caps. That way you can fill the caps and not have to worry about measuring out 1/4 or 1/2 caps.

I'm going to try it your way next time. Are the 95 mg. Pretty potent? Maybe too strong for a newbie? Also when you say sift do you mean like hash that was sifted through a silkscreen? One more thing, do you decarb the sift also just like you do the bud? Thanks!

Yeah 95mg is pretty strong for newbies but that depends on the potency of the starting material which is the biggest variable when making edibles. I make them various potencies, you might want to target making 50's, then someone with tolerance can take 2, 3 if they want to get blasted :)

The sift I'm referring to is kief/hash sifted through a screen 100u is what I usually use, it's clean enough for edibles and gets a decent return. I use all my trim/popcorn and a lot of times bud if I have extra that I won't smoke/vape.

Here's a step-by-step on the recipe I use, always starts with decarbing it whether plant material or sift.

Yeah they work perfect for sleeping and get people off those shitty pharma pills. I take somewhere between 60-80mg of the sift caps every night which don't get me too stoned (but if I smoke/vape with them I get pretty high) but 3-4 hours later I'm doing the head nod and there's no fighting it :)

Nice! Tonight I'm going to try the 1/2 full cap a little earlier to see where that takes me.

If I use 14-16% grade flower 1and1\2 oz with 2 and 1\2 cups of coconut oil. Sativa dominant 80/20. will the end result be of good quality?

If you take the recipe I posted for the caps using sift, then increase the starting material x4. So e.g. 1g of sift = 4g of bud then you should get pretty close to the same potency. Sift will run 50-60% THC content so 4x should be pretty close.

Example to make 100mg caps with sift:
2.1g of sift, 3 tspsns. of coconut oil

Same dosage using flower:
8.4g of (ground) flower, 3 tspsns. of coconut oil

Now you may need to make some adjustments as I'm basing the calculation on the average of 21 caps per 2.1g of sift + 3 tspsns. of coco oil. The mass will be greater in the flower material + coco oil and may end up making more caps, thereby reducing the dosage per cap. Adjust as needed, will try a batch using ground flower at some point to see how that works out.
