help with butane bho blast

so i going to make bho for the first time and i have some questions:
my goal is to get nice golden color and good taste
*what coffee filter should i use?
*is dry ice worth to use?
*should i invest in vacuum pump and chember?
*when buying butane on what i need to look?, is simple lighter gas will do the trick?
*how its called in english this sort of heating pad with thermostat ?

In answer to your questions:

*what coffee filter should i use?

Any good quality standard coffee filter will work. I doubled them up and then backed them up with cloth at the discharge end of the column, to prevent blowouts. Retain it with a clamp, trim off excess.

*is dry ice worth to use?

Extracting below -50C reduces the pickup of non target elements like plant waxes, carotene.

Using dry ice to chill the recovery tank will allow you to use mixed gases in a passive system. Isobutane boils at -11.7C/10.94F, and propane boils at -42C/43.6F.

*should i invest in vacuum pump and chember?

Yes. You need the vacuum pump to run a closed loop system anyway and you need controlled heat and vacuum to purge the concentrate after extraction.

*when buying butane on what i need to look?, is simple lighter gas will do the trick?

It will work but may contain heavier molecules that may be left behind in your concentrate. With a closed loop system you can pre-distill the lighter LPG to remove those "Mystery Oils", but with open blasting you are stuck with them.

I use 99.95% Instrument Grade and still pre-distill it to get it down to 99.998%.


Here is how I distill it using an active system, but the same holds true with a passive system. It is about temperature control. Don't heat the collection pot hotter than about 29C/85F as the C-5 pentane component of Mystery Oil boils at about 36C/97F.

thanks for the awesome answer probably toke some time.i still didnt read the links you put but check me if i wrong
first i cooled it up than i blast it on pyrex than put it in another tool with hot water(about 60c) and than i heat it and mix on
stove top(about 50c) until i dont see the butane bubbles and its done no? so why do i need the vacuum pump and chember ? no close loop system and etc, my moto is keep it simple

If you read the links, I believe your process questions will be answered, along with some questions you haven't asked yet.

The vacuum pump and chamber speed up post extraction purging of residual LPG. It does a better job faster, but we ran for years without using it.

Simple is good. Closed loop is safer and produces a better product without Mystery Oil.

english is not my native language so i do have that barrier but most of that i understand is that i dont have all that equipment and chemistry knowledge ...
i got around 700grams of buds and trim that i want to bho,its will take long time with the simple way?
is it worth the effort time and green to do it that way? i mean if i keep the sub zero temp,2 coffee filters+fabric cover and use pretty clean butane can i get that beautiful gold color and good taste?
how mach yield should i expect that way?

Unfortunately English and technocrateeze are the only languages that I speak fluently and there are nuances to consider when producing high quality extracts. Perhaps if you shared your preferred language, someone else on this forum speaks it and is in a better position to communicate with you.

Open blasting is actually faster than closed loop, it is the purging that takes longer at atmospheric pressure and more terpenes are lost.

We made golden BHO before closed loop and vacuum purging, but it typically retained more butane and mystery oil. It was considered primo at the time, but as technology improves, so do tastes, standards, and expectations.

You don't have to run all 700 grams at once, so may I suggest you take your best shot and run small sample batches to prove your process?

The answer to your questions are "yes if", not "yes or no." Sorry I can't help you there.

I expect about 18 to 20% yield from the strains I run. I have however gotten as low as 5.7% with one landrace strain.

Where to begin? Yes, safety first! Use metal containers {chrome plated aluminum salad bowl ideal and dollar store fare} for collection vessels. Only use water as a heat source until 95% of gas offed, then move to heated vacuum chamber or heat to 145C to complete off gassing in open recovery vessel. Note that additional pressure or heat to overcome surface tension of the oil to completely get rid of your gas necessary, adding a small amount of alcohol will help if needed. Alcohol at 99.9% a good tool to have present for spills and reversing any mistakes. Dry and powder your sample matrix, pack tightly and then freeze before blasting. With cans go slow, maybe wait 30 minutes after the first sign of solvent exiting the sample matrix for a soak, then continue until clear.
