Help Wiring Lighting Controller

First, thanks for taking a look at my post.

I just bought a Titan Helios 4 lighting controller. I have all the parts I need to hook it up, I just have a question or two about the actual wiring.

First, on my 30amp dryer cord, the wires are not color coded. I am just about positive the middle wire is the ground, its the other two I am confused about.

I know with 240v, there are two hot wires and one ground. My lighting controller says to hook up the red wire to one screw and the black to another. Would the wire with "writing" on the insulation be the black wire? With 120v the one with the stripe is usually negative right? So this should mean that since that one is negative, it should mean it is the "black" wire right?

Also, I plan on plugging my dryer cord into the socket in my laundry room and then run about 25-30ft of 10g wire into my grow room. Will there be any problems running a cord of this length? I am only going to be running 2x600watt lights and a fan to cool my reflectors, so I am not going to be drawing anywhere near the 30amps its rated for. Will there be any problems with this?

I have some experience with electrical wiring, just not a whole lot with 240v. I have wired a few ballast kits, wired multiple fans together, etc. So I don't think this will be much more difficult than those modifications. I just want to make sure I don't ruin a $200 controller and like $1000 worth of equiptment.

Thanks for your help.

wit 240v, u have 2 120v lines, and 1 ground, the ground is usually copper and not lined. doesnt matter red/black as far the the 2 hot leads, no neg/positives, both r 120v.

so if u bought a dryer cord pony, i wouldn't suggest hooking wires onto other wires. go back to hardware store and basically, u will want to "build" a 25-30ft dryer cord pony that will be hard wired into ur lite controller. using proper wire and all! mucho importante

i've done all this myself.. hope this helps

Thanks for the reply.

If I decide to make a pony like you mention, would I hard wire those wires into the wall? Or would I get just a male plug and wire my wires to that?

Thanks again.
