help!! problems germinating

i ordered 20 seeds from nirvana seeds and i have tried over and over to get them started. i have tried to germinate18 of them and only 4 haven't cracked but the problem is that after i plant them they never break the surface of the soil. the first try the two i was trying to get going cracked and i planted them and when after a week they never broke the surface i dug them up and they hadn't changed at all since i had planted them. so i tried again but this time i went on a trip and they sat for four days in the paper towel. so when i got back they had two inch tap roots so i planted them and they broke the surface in two days but then about three days later i woke up to find them shriveled and pretty much dead. so i figured out it had been nearly 100 degrees in the space that night cuz my fan had stopped working:wall: so i have tried again and again since then and every time it's the same story they crack i plant them they almost never make any more progress there was a few times where i found them with longer tap roots but they were either broken off or if they were fine i would cover them back up and they would never come up. :-( i have only two seeds left so i really need these two to work. please help!!

Step 1: Put seed in soil
Step 2: Water soil
Step 3: Keep soil moist but not wet
Step 4: Keep soil and seed warm

It's that simple man. Don't mess around with the paper towel method. It does work but you have to do it right. If it's not working for you then try the way mother nature intended.

thanks for the advice but i only have two seeds left and i cant get any more for a long time so i would like some help trying to figure out what im doing wrong. i will probably try that with one seed after the ones im currently hoping for either live or die but for now i need help figuring things out

I don't personally like the paper towel method but basically as soon as they crack they need to go into soil. If the taproot gets more than like 1/2 an inch long the sprout will probably not survive. Also try to orient the seedling so that the taproot is going down in the soil. Hope this helps my friend.

What is your method of getting them open and how long are you letting the tap root get?

I find, because I'm in a very dry area (Mojave Desert) that you need to use paper towel method, folded in quarters, one on top of the seeds, one underneath seeds. Give them a good amount of water but not to where the towels are dripping wet. Set one on a styrofoam plate, lay down seeds, lay other towel on top of seeds, set an opaque bowl (Pyrex like, Corning ware, something with some weight) upside down over towels, then put the whole thing, plate and all into a large gallon size zip lock bag. Zip it up except for about an inch and a half, set in a warm (not hot) but shaded area.

Let tap roots get to be about 1/2 inch to 1 inch. Poke hole in dirt with a pencil, put seeds in soil and cover lightly, don't push down on soil. Put another zip lock bag - quart size is fine if planting in 16 oz cups, or use a water bottle cut in half with a few holes poked into it to put over the area where it is planted so that moisture stays in and around it. Kind of like a miniature greenhouse.

i dont think the problem is with the paper towel method it has to be with my setup or the environment i don't know but it seems like they do fine until i put them in the soil

yeah i had problems with germing there seeds too. i had 5 fem short riders that did nothing so emailed them n they are sending me 5 more free of charge.. as a jist of goodwill Alice said.. but i have yet to see them shipped n its been 4 days already..

i take a plate and a bowl and four paper towels. i take the paper towels and fold them up and then dunk them in water then i let then drip until they stop then i give then a slight squeeze to get a little bit more water out. then i put the seeds in amd fold the paper towels in half so half is on bottom and half is on top then i put it on the plate and put the bowl over it then i wrap it up in a black t-shirt and put it in a warm dark place. i usually plant them as soon as they crack.

i emailed them and they haven't responded yet but im hoping that i may be able to get more seeds. they took a week and a half to ship mine and another week to get here so maybe you'll get them.

I'd use a ziplock bag as opposed to a black t-shirt. Maybe they're getting too dry.

I tried to add an illustration but it came out all tiny. Sorry man. Maybe you can try to make it bigger so you can see it.

Looks like you're gonna take the other guys advice anyhow. Good luck with your seeds!

sounds like the soil your putting them in has to much ferts in it. i would use plain soil when you first start them then replant in fert soil after thy get three sets of fan leaves. and try putting your starter soil in the oven first and cook out the bad shit then put them in the clean cooked soil.

I also don't think it has anything with the germination process but still here's a link to some videos on how to do it properly

Your problem might be just the way to treat your plants.
First ones might have been insufficiently water or planted too deeply.
the seconds, as you thought, were probably too hot, but once again maybe to little water too.

My best suggestion for you would just so happen to germinate the seed as you see fit (Paper towel or whatnot), and then plant them in a sproutling box with a plastic cover on top.

It'll make a nice, hot and humid enviroment for your seeds to start and grow fast.

Then simply transplant them into larger pots once the 2nd set of fan leaves grow.

That's how I did mine, and even with my little heat problem, both of my plants are still growing great. I wouldn't have been surprised if my temps had accidently gotten to 110F, since my box had inadequate ventilation, and lights were on 24/7, plus it was during my places 30C+ temps. (I'm in Frenchland Canada. (Name is not quite real, but representative of where I am))

Miracle Gro soil, nutes are really strong, especially for seedlings. Maybe you need to flush the soil some too. Indoor grow? Outdoor?
