NPK = nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium.. these are the main nutes, or macro nutes, used during growth...

nitrogen is used during vegetative growth... so you want a higher N during veg..

phosphorus for flowering, so you want a higher P during flowering..

potassium throughout

the numbers are the ratios as related to one another and relate to the percentage of the amount of them in the fertilizer itself......

an NPK of 20-10-5 means it has 2 times the nitrogen as phosphorus, and 4 times the amount of potassium... and it relation to the amounts in the fert itself, you get 20%N, 10%P, and 5%K..

there are also other nutes, known as micro nutes, your plant needs... most you wont have to worry about.. but commonly seen deficiencies come from a lack of calcium, iron, and/or magnesium...

now if you are using a nute where the value of P is the highest, you are good... you also want to make sure it has some K value as well... the N value is not as important, although once the N runs out your leaves will start to yellow...

you may also want to look into supplement that has iron, mag, and cal in it.. heres a link to a good one http://www.wormsway.com/detail.aspx?t=prod&sku=MA405&AC=1

otherwise you should be in good shape....

good luck and good growing
